Retaining Lug 4 Sten?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone used a retaining lug for their sten? I am planning on doing two projects in the near future and was wondering if anyone had experince using "Retaining Lug For Sten Removable Receiver" from rockloc.com? I was thinking of doing it for a semi-auto conversion and for a dummy gun? would it work for both? and what is the legality of this on both?

PS how long would it take to get back an SBR request and can you build an SBR before the request is back if you don't finish kit? Also this is a little off topic but can a person get permission to make an AOW?

I have not -- I have, however, heard that it is a significantly risky point-source failure opportunity. Besides, why bother? What type of dummy sten are you doing that you can't either buy another MKIII kit for $50 (delivered) from interordnance, strip the parts you can use for the dummy, and keep the rest as spares? (It isn't that hard to make dummy parts. . . they only have to be externally accurate.

As for the "security" billing that Rockloc is selling it with, think of this. . . how much easier is it, really to secure (or cache) the gun without the trigger group on as it is with? That's right. . . not much. (Don't feel like I'm bashing you -- I had the same thought as you until somebody pointed out the flaws in the reasoning behind the lug.) Also, compare Rockloc's bolt handle with yours. . . notice anything different? Yeah, it'll work great, but it doesn't have that Sten look. . . kinda like the guys building dummy guns on a MkIII template with the extra "Sterling-style" ventilation holes. . . I mean, is there any reason to build a Sten (at least if you are the type to own any dummy guns), other than the nostalgic look? So, why farb it up with external cosmetic "improvements"?

In order:

1. Maybe six months from when they cash your check (could be sooner, could be later).

2. NO!!! Do not even have a short barrel that can be easily installed in your possession (have a friend hold it -- that's perfectly legal) until you get your approved form back from the All Things Fun & Exciting people.

3. Yes, you can get permission to build an AOW -- same procedure (and cost, it's only subsequent transfers that are cheaper) as for an SBR.
