TD.
The American Thompson Association is proud to announce the 2012 Show and Shoot will be held at The Thompson Convention Center in Ohio on Friday, August 3rd and Saturday, August 4th. If you are a TATA member, you know to make your hotel reservations now as this is a popular time and place in Ohio. TATA members who have never attended a Show & Shoot need to put this event on their bucket list. You will see and learn more about the Thompson Submachine Gun than you ever thought possible. And you will get to meet and talk with many of the "personalities" that post on this great forum. Display tables are free; show off your Thompson(s) and accessories. If you are not a TATA member now is an excellent time to join. TATA membership would make a great Christmas present. For $30 you can join an organization international in scope, has fantastic members, receive four very informative newsletters, have an opportunity to participate in the NRA Convention in St. Louis, Missouri in 2012, and attend the 2012 TATA Show & Shoot. It does not get any better than this for a Thompson enthusiast! Information about The American Thompson Association and an application form can be found at the following web address: http://www.nfatoys.com/tsmg/tata/Default.htm The membership application is located on a link in the upper right hand corner. Feel free to review some of the past year's newsletters. Tom Davis, Jr.PresidentThe American Thompson Association
CptCurl
Tom, I've marked my calendar for the dates. This past August I had the pleasure to attend my first time. It was a great gathering and everything Tom says above. Here's a link to a discussion of this year's Show & Shoot:http://www.machinegu...showtopic=13176 Next year I plan to be there carrying iron! Flipseat
I'm a somewhat new guy around here... although I have been doing a good bit of reading for a few months. I recently purchased a Bridgeport M1 and am just waiting on my stamp to come in the mail in a couple months. I'm wondering if this event is something that I should put on my calendar? I'm in WI. What do you do about transporting across state lines? IL is a no-no, correct? I could take the ferry to MI... Should I bring the Thompson along or just come and be an observer? I don't know anyone... is this an issue? I would probably try to combine this with a trip to the CMP... Sorry for all the questions. This is my first MG

It is pretty simple you need to fax/mail a ATF form 5320.20 with the address of the show or shoot. http://www.atf.gov/forms/firearms/

This is my first MG Hello Flipseat, If you are even considering it, please come you will not regret it!. The show is on Friday which offers an opportunity to show off your collection and/or view some other amazing collections. There is usually an educational talk around 1pm and then the show continues the remainder of the day. The "shoot" part of the Show and Shoot comes on Saturday at the local police range. The morning is a competition shoot, which is a distance/accuracy event and the afternoon (or late morning) is a steel plate shoot with open shooting on the morning range. Saturday evening is the awards ceremony and a meal fit for a king. The Hill family does an amazing job and I am sure you would find the trip worthwhile. Have no worries about knowing anyone. We were all in that boat at one point, myself about 5 years ago. The people are about as welcoming and friendly as it gets. If you would like to come, please go to http://www.nfatoys.com/tsmg/tata/. Here you will find information on joining, and the Show and Shoot. Any questions, please post them here or feel free to shoot me a PM. Many members are on this board and I am sure they will chime in as well. Thanks and welcome to the boards. - Ron
Phil Askew
Flipseat, This is a great group of folks. Like Ron said we were all "newbies" Just bring lots of ammo and at least 6 mags. Flipseat
Thanks for the replies and information! I will see how my schedule looks in the spring. Car shows, races, and the Iola military show make July busy, so getting another weekend off work could be tricky, but I think I can do it I would love to see other folks' collections. My "collection" of Thompson goodies so far is just the Bridgeport.... but I would love for someone to look it over and really tell me more about it, good or bad. I will be doing much reading and research in the mean time. I appreciate all of the craftsmanship, mechanics, and history in these pieces, which is why I went for a Thompson. I look forward to (hopefully) meeting some of you. Many questions have been answered in your old posts and putting faces to names is always nice. Thanks for all your help in the past and in the future!
giantpanda4
Hmmmm... car shows... I should mention that the same weekend (usually) there is the Mopar National in neighboring Granville, OH. At our hotel and all over the roads that weekend are several nice mopars! That will hook ya... if the other guys haven't yet!
ron_brock
Just a mid year (TATA year) tease as I am in Granville tonight. By the way, the Buxton is for sale, if there are any interested investors, Kelly and I will gladly run the place for you.... - Ron
Tomross
I currently only own a semi auto TA5. I am considering investing in a 1921 or 1928 model sometime in the next year or so. Is this event for me or only current full auto owners? Thanks.
Shooter
Tomross, The TATA show is exactly the place for you. Full auto ownership is not required. It is a great place so see and learn about Thompsons before you "invest" in one. You can also shoot one/some if you bring factory ammo. You could bring and shoot your TA5, but you could not use it in the competitions. You would need to borrow a FA for the competitions.
Tomross
Thanks. I will most likely attend.
ron_brock
Tomross, Certainly, please join us, this is an event to look forward to all year long. If you are considering a full auto purchase in the future, you will learn more in a weekend here than almost anywhere else. Also bring along your TA5. There is an open shoot after the morning competition so you can burn through some ammo. - Ron
full auto 45
This sounds like it may be an interesting show. Being a newbie, what should I do to be there? Do people bring thier GUNS with them?
Sig
Hello everyone Wanted to share for those planning to attend the upcoming The American Thompson Show & Shoot, this August. Mike Wank and I will present the fruits of years of research on Thompsons in Michigan, with 3 major areas of discussion. Michigan State Police Thompsons On The Side of Law and Order. Much documentation on their acquisition, service posts, and eventual disposition. Two of these will be on display at the show. Then four total rediscovered Thompsons including:Three seized Thompsons currently held by Michigan State Police. Includes original shipment information, inspection photos, lore and interesting coincidences. There will be closeup photos of one very interesting Thompson. One seized Thompson at a Sheriff department with substantial information on it's journey to where it resides today. michael

Just a month to go and I haven't submitted a Form 5320.20. Got behind the 8 ball the last few weeks because my mother died May 31. I just filled out the Form 5320.20. The instructions say, "All signatures on both copies of the form shall be in ink. A facsimile signature is not acceptable." So what am I missing? Will the ATF really accept this form by fax? There's no fax number on the form. Any suggestions? Sorry for the newbie type questions. I've never submitted this form before. CptCurl
I just got an answer to my question by calling the NFA Branch. They will accept a fax. They say their turn-around is 30 to 45 days. We shall see. Curl
TD.
CptCurl,I am sorry to hear about the passing of your mother. I think you will be fine for the Form 5320.20 approval. TD.
I am going to bring this to the top of the Board again just to make sure everyone knows about this great Thompson Show & Shoot. full auto 45
TD, as a long time listener and first time contestant, what should I expect to see and what should I bring? How many rounds would I expect to shoot in a day? Is the host a very friendly type? Are the others very friendly and let you inspect thier firearms? Lodging, food, after hours activities, are these available in this small town? How do I get signed up for all of this fun. Oooooooh! I'm excited. gijive
Mike, Are you coming back this year or scuba diving in Pago Pago? Seriously, if you're coming back welcome! Sorry I won't see you, I can't make it this year.
TD.
Mike,All good questions. First, you have to be a member of The American Thompson Association (TATA) or a guest of a member to attend. The application form for TATA is at the below link on the left side of the page under "membership application." http://www.nfatoys.com/tsmg/tata/Default.htm Lodging can be a problem if you register late as this is a very popular place. However, the Cherry Valley Inn usually has available rooms and is a nice place to stay. The Granville Inn may have a few rooms available but I know the Buxton Inn is full. This shoot is hosted by the Hill family. I know they have let you attend in the past so I have to question their judgment on occasion, but everyone will find this is a great run show & shoot. If you shoot both events on Saturday you may need as much as 400 rounds. The morning shoot will take 100 rounds. The afternoon steel shoot can take 3 times that if you proceed all the way to the end (YOU probably do not have to worry about that ) However, if you lose during any of the stages, you are done for this competition. Normally that would be a bad thing but it does have its advantageous as you can then go back to the main range and shoot all you want during the free shoot. I would suggest bringing a minimum of 500 rounds so you can spend a little quality time with your Thompson on Saturday. If you really like to shoot and don't get to the range much during the year, having a 1000 rounds on hand will give you a lot of options. You will then be able to shoot all you want and can return home with a few rounds if you get tired (or the sun makes for a hot day). One of the best benefits of the show is FREE display tables (you have to reserve the tables on the application form). Display your Thompson and/or Thompson accessories for all to see. The selling or trading of Thompson items is the norm during the show. It is quite an educational experience for those new to the Thompson community. Tracie will be on hand to answer many of your Thompson questions as will many of the other authors of The Ultimate Thompson Book. Frank Iannamico is normally present and is another good source for information. It is a great time to have your Thompson books signed! The lecture this year is by Michael Sigillito and Mike Wank. I have had a preview of their presentation and guarantee you do not want to miss it so get to the show early. This is going to be a great show and shoot. I hope to see everybody there - including you
Colt Chopper
It took some prying Tom, but I think David Allen and I have him cornswaggled into attending with us. Now if we can just get him to "Man Up" and shoot !!!!
