Gearz
Howdy. I recently came across a site (link here) that showed a Civil Defense marked Remington 11. Anyone know the back story on these? Who they were issued to and why? Thanks.

dalbert
Gearz, Thank you very much for posting that link, and welcome to the board! I am in the process of building a military Model 11 from spare parts, and I learned a couple of things from the link. Thanks Again! emmagee1917
Not a specific book I'm aware of , usually just mentions in books on the firearms themselves if the auther goes into post GI usage. At various times during the cold war , CD units were given shotguns , M1 carbines and rifles , and 1911 pistols . Prob'ly 1903s , 1917 rifles and revolvers too. They were to maintain order in the shelters and afterwards in the neiborhoods till the local LE and govt. could recover.Chris
Gearz
Fascinating. I'd love to see some pics of CD arms and storage facilities of said. I recall reading somewhere that some "canned" M1 Garands were stored in fallout shelters, but I forget where I saw the reference. Interesting stuff. steve-o 1963
Gearz, Very cool link on the CD issue 11A. I like Dave am building a Military 11A from some of my parts.I've never seen the paper work for the load adjustment attached in any fore stock before. I'd really like to find one of those.I own a 16ga, 20ga, 12ga and a 12ga with a Paradox slug barrel all commercial. Then I have a standard Military issue 12ga with the Lyman Cutts compensator and the military project I'm building now.But the one that started the passion 20 years ago was a ISP stamped (Illinois State Penitentiary) police riot issue. It's a very early issue with the safety in the trigger housing. I can't help but see it in a setting like the movie Green Mile.Looks like I'm missing one now. That CD issue is very cool. I'm gonna have to locate one of those.Best, Steve
