At a local car show R. Lee Ermey was there for a few hours signing autographs and posing for pictures. I had to jump in. Hell the car show sucked, so I had my digital camera and a couple buddies and we stood forever to see the man. He talked to everybody and if you wanted a picture, he jumped right up and BAM!! I had a couple taken with him. The first one I was just the usual hi there here's a mug shot type picture....

R. Lee Ermey & Me

Then I told him I was in the Air Force years ago. I think he took it well.

R. Lee found out I was in the Air Force

I invited him to come to Indy anytime and let's go shoot some Thompson's and others! Hell he took my email and number...who knows!?

full auto,

That's about the same look he gave me when I met him at our Marine Corp League Awards Banquet and I mentioned his role in "Saving Silverman" Of course I mentioned it like this.."Hey Gunney, I saw you in the movie Saving Silverman...so tell me...did you do a lot of sea duty"?

Seriously, he's a great guy. He stuck around till 0300 just shooting the breeze like he was a normal Joe.

I contacted the ol' gunny several months ago, submitting a proposal to his producers to do a piece on his "mail call" show about the military history of the Thompson. Got a nice responce from Lee stating that they had just completed a segment on The Thompson. Unfortunately I missed that segment, don't know how in depth they made it, I suspect though that it was a pretty short piece... has anyone seen that episode?

That's Senior Drill Instructor Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. He's played a wide range of characters in a bunch of movies. The Siege of Firebase Gloria was however the absolute worst big name actor movie (tied for worst with Bad Lieutenant and Tango and Cash).
