dalbert
All, I went to OGCA on Saturday, and had lunch with 3 members here on the board, but left without spending a penny at the show. I decided that I'd go back on Sunday, because I'd examined 4 Remington Model 8's at good prices, all on one table, and decided I had to have one. Well, there was one left when I went back, and it was still a decent one, at a decent price. I paid $320. It's no collectors item, but I like it a lot, and plan to shoot it. The bore is excellent, and the only drawback is that it is drilled and tapped for a scope, but all scope mounting holes have fill screws. I love the weight of it, and how it points. The fact that Frank Hamer used one to kill Bonnie and Clyde gives it a law enforcement historical aspect that intrigues me. They don't make rifles like these anymore. The fact that John Browning designed it, and hunted with it also makes it a desirable firearm model for me to add to my collection. It was Browning's last civilian rifle design. Mine was made in June, 1926, and is in .35 Remington. It has a Marbles-Sheard gold dot front sight. Some of the Model 8's are over 100 years old now. I have a feeling this will not be the last one that I purchase. Anyway, I thought I'd post some photos for comment. jim c 351
Dave,Nice rifle.I believe it was heavily used by the FBI also. Somewhere I have a picture of a FBI gun rack with dozens of model 8 Remington's, along with ,I believe Rem M31s and 28 TSMGs. I imagine you've seen the picture already, if not I'll look for it.I'll bet it's a kicker, with the recoiling barrel, and 200 gr bullet. We will be looking for a range report. It looks like it has an AK47 safe/selector . Hope its just a safe. Were all M8s straight grip??Jim CPS I talked to the collector that had previously sold 2 black/blue , 20 rd TSMG pouches. He still has two pouches left ,but could not provide any useful info. He just bought them at gun shows. You probably know him. He's a member of the M1 carbine club and dresses British at shows. I don't know his name.I went to the Civil War show and didn't buy anything. Found a Tom Hanks TSMG mag bag for $80.00 and passed. Also a USMC 20 rd pouch for Reising or TSMG. Guy wanted $118.00. I offered $50.00. No deal. PSS. I remembered where I saw the picture. Page 153 of Hills --American legion.. Problem is , the guns are listed as M81.I don't know the difference between the M8 and M81. So maybe the FBI didn't use the M8. Hope this doesn't count as a mistake on my part. Edited May 8, 2012 by jim c

I went on a Model 8 forum, and they couldn't believe the low price. Not all M8's had straight grips. They were made from 1906 to 1936, and then there were a few changes made, and they became Model 81's, which were produced until 1950. I know the FBI photo you're talking about. I seem to recall Tracie printing it in a recent newsletter. Regarding the Reising pouch, I'm almost certain I've seen the same one at 2 different shows, and that I'm the one who told him it was intended for the Reising. He had the $118 price on it both times that I saw it. First time I saw it was about 6 months ago at OGCA, so he's had it a while now with no takers. Thanks! OCM
Good job- I used to have problems with mine and the floating barrel design, thing is LOAD too. Good brush gun.The one used in the Bonnie & Clyde ambush was actually Prentis Oakley. He had borrowed it from the local dentist. This was the first gun fired at the ambush, the first or second round hit Clyde in the left temple- That was the end of that. The gun is still around, I've talked to the owner in the past but he sold it I think. There was a nice story about it in one of the magazines about 10 years ago, Maybe SAR ?Now you need the 07 Winchester David. OCM

I was looking for an 07 Winchester when I found the Model 8. I still want to add an 07, and a Remington Model 1917 to the collection. Thanks! jim c 351
David,Last night I watched a western staring Joel McCrea and Randolph Scott. The title was "Ride the High Country." The bad guy,Warren Oates, used a Remington M 08 semi. Can't remember seeing a 1908 Rem in a movie before, much less a western.Have you seen the movie??Jim C

Though, I guess some "westerns" could extend into the 20th century, so maybe it's not that much of a stretch.
