M2 Carbine Shooters Who Reload

Recommended Posts

While doing some load experiments to make the carbine acceptable for steel plate matches and also for silencer use, I came up with a load that may be of interest.

It calls for a 110 gr BERRY plated bullet and 7 grs of UNIQUE powder and a small rifle primer.

This load gives a velocity of 1610 FPS and functions OK in my Winchester carbine with a flat bolt and M2 slide.

Plated Berry and Rainier bullets are very popular with subgun shooters in 9m/m and 45 ACP. They are much easier on the rifling than jacketed bullets and don't lead the bore. This wear reduction would be even more important with a high velocity gun like the carbine. The lower velocity would also be easier on the action , especially when firing full auto.

This load is not as accurate at 100 yds as the full power FMJ load, but its not bad. At 25 yds its plenty good.

I don't have a M2 so I can't do that test.

If someone with M2 would care to load this combo up and report, I would be grateful.

A followup to the above post.

Yesterday was Tusco Rifle Clubs 21st annual subgun match.

The M1/M2 carbine has never been permitted in these matches because the High velocity and jacketed bullets damage the plates.

I ask the range officer for permission to test the above load, (110 gr Berry Plated,-7 gr Unique,- WW small rifle primer,), for plate damage.

We fired 1 shot each at a 5 inch, freshly painted, steel plate at 20 yds. When we rubbed our finger over the impact area it was perfectly smooth.

I was given permission , and used , my WRA M1 carbine in the semi auto part of the match. Out of 75 shots I had only one failure to eject and finished with an average time for me.

I was very satisfied with the performance and plan to use the carbine in future matches. I still don't know if this load will cycle a FA M2 carbine.

As a side note, I had one failure with the 28A1 TSMG, and failures to numerous to count with the Uzi. I experienced no malfunctions with the M3 SMG.
