Doc1234
All: I will soon be driving across country from NYC to CA. Being a 1920's history fan I am planning on visiting as many historical sites visited by Dillinger, Capone, etc. Any recommendations on places to visit? OCM
A loaded question: Chicago for sure, gijive ( on this forum) can fill you in on the Capone sites maybe, Biographillinger was killed. Check Mario's site to on locations, myalcaponemuseum.com or something close. Indianapolis to the Crown Hill cemetery to see Dillinger's grave-, Going South, visit Gibsland, La for the Bonnie & Clyde ambush site. Vegas for the Gangster museum, just was some stuff on it on the site. Tons of stuff, could keep going but you'd never make it. OCM
Doc1234
OCM, Thanks for the ideas. I am also planning on visiting the hotel in Tucson where Dillinger was staying at. Also may try and see if I can visit Jesse James's house in Missouri also. Pretty much have all summer.
OCM
You can stay at the Congress Hotel in Tucson, however the third floor where the two gang members stayed is gone. Neat place. The house where JD was arrested is there, has a historical plaque too, but I don't think they like strangers knocking on the door anymore, college rental now. Also there is ( used to be ) a Arizona historical museum located close in the downtown area. Has some Dillinger stuff on display-The police stations has a couple Thompsons and 1-2 Winchester 351 that were taken from the gang in 34, on display. Hammond, Indiana Convention & Visitors Center has the old Joe Pinkston Dillinger collection on display . Be a good excursion from the Chicago area and stop in Crown Point and see the old jail, they may give tours, some friends of mine were there not long ago, got a private tour, where JD stood and was filmed. Yes, the James house too. I was there with my parents in the mid 1950s, it was just a stop off the highway then, parked in the gravel, paid a buck or something and went in.
