Steve
Anyone have any suggestions on who makes the best gun safes? Lots of them for sale out there, but most I've looked at seem kind of "tinny". Would like to get something that does the job well. Any suggestions most appreciated. These guns are expensive plus I'd hate to see the wrong person get ahold of one. Thanks to all to take time to comment. Regards, Steve
Waffen Und Bier
I have a Browning and a Fort Knox. Both are good safes in my opinion. One extra thing to keep stuff safe.
NotDeaf
Steve, I hear you about how tinny the safes are. Well, for myself, I try to think big. So I built a safe room, aka, panic room. Did some internet research and had a 10 x 10 room made from blocks and rebar and filled with concrete and had a local safe builder make the door and install it. Can't beat the space. John Jr
Not Deaf has a pretty good idea. If I had the space, this is what I would have. I have a Fort Knox safe, and its great. Heavy som bitch! Jr
michael
Check out safes that are not marketed as "gun safes". I have a safe that was intended for a jewelry store or something like that. Its about 4100lbs and huge. I left the shelves in the top and built a rifle rack for the bottom. It has a UL rating of 30 minutes and fire rated to withstand 1850f exterior temperature for two hours. To get the 30 minute rating the safe must have the ability to withstand severe attacks by experienced U.L. experts. Gun safes are not rated like this They also feature "relocking devices". So, if someone tries drilling the door, glass breaks and relocks the safe. I had a browning safe which had a great padded interior and nice finish, but when you compare the size and UL ratings there is a big difference. They are more money, but in my own opinion worth it. They also come in a variety of sizes. Check out your local safe companies. This is not a sporting good store item. Often times the safe stores have used ones when jewelery stores close, upgrade, etc. Just wanted to toss out another option. If I had the room to build though, I think I would build the safe room. That is awesome!! Michael Michael
BNZ41
I keep my guns and other valuables in a "Decoy Safe".You can put it anywhere because it looks like an Armoire made out of wood.BUT beneath it is solid steel, fire rated and dehumidified. Bar none, best looking and quality.I paid $3000.00 some years ago.Don't know prices today. GB

tedgun1911
Hi Steve, I have a Champion 50-cubic-foot Crown Series safe. This thing is truly awesome: it measures 41.5" x 72.5" x 29." It weighs 1525 lbs, has several different intrusion-deterrent systems, and is fireproof up to 1500 degrees. I paid $3,200 for the safe, and it's worth every penny. (They do have less expensive models.) Check out their website for more info. Hope you find what you're looking for. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/smile.gif
Chopper28
Just remember that C3 weapons are very expensive and very hard to replace. Once they are gone.... they are most likely gone forever. Home owners insurance won't come close to replacing the price of one. They just don't understand. Invest well in a good quality safe and you will sleep better at night. It is only a fraction of the cost of a few automatic weapons. Shop around, big gun shows are a good starting place. Dealers that strictly sell safes will probably give better prices than sporting goods stores or gun shops. I have been very pleased with my Fort Knox. FWIW. Notch
First off, hello to everyone. New to the site, in the proccess of purchasing a Reising, and was dirested here by another shooter. Great site! I have a Champion V50. Great safe. They are still "handmade". Champion manufactures very few safes a day, giving them the ability to really make a quality box. full auto 45
I have a "Johnson Safe". Made here in the Indianapolis area. Jeff will custom make just about anything you want. Real nice guy. Just moved and he came back and moved both my safes for me. Small company, saves you big dollars. My safe will hold 18 stand ups plus what ever you can put on the shelves. The safe weighs in at about 1100 pounds and is 60h x 38w x 26d. If your in the local area he can and will deliver. Plus he'll paint it any color you want. If you need the info, email me and I'll get it. Can't find the card right now.
