baerowner
Two weeks ago I bought a Sten MKII at a garage sale for $10.00. The previous owner bought it at a garage sale about two years ago and didn't know the history of it either. It was in two pieces when he got it and sold it to me the same way. One piece was the barrel, magazine tube. ejector piece and the magazine. The other half was the bolt tube, bolt, spring and steel stock. Everything looks good but I can't figure out how the bolt tube attaches to the magazine tube. What am I missing? On the magazine tube it's stamped: STEN.MKII on one side. On the other side it's stamped(slightly faded) FP35486 and under that is E&C. Under that is A A and under that is 2655. Can anyone identify this?I've done a lot of research but I can't find anything on this. Any help from you guys will be greatly appreciated.Thank you Baerowner
MG08
Photos would help, since I am having trouble picturing what you are describing - have you looked at a photo of a STEN ? there is a tube ( hopefully not complete on your parts,) that the bolt rides in, the barrel attaches to, and the magazine well goes onto - and it would also be helpful to know if you are in the US or ?? Rules are different ......
baerowner
I'm working on getting pictures posted but I'm having trouble with uploading pictures from my phone to my computer.I've looked at all the pictures that I can find but nothing shows how it all fits together. I've even considered welding the mag tube to the bolt tube. but that would probably be a big mistake. Thanks for your reply and I will continue to try to post pic'sI'm not too good with computers. Can anyone help me with loading pictures?I live in the United States. Edited March 11, 2016 by baerowner
timkel
The sten tube is one piece. Sounds like it was cut in half to demil. Are you asking how to build an unregistered machine gun? Edited March 11, 2016 by timkel
baerowner
By no means do I want to build an unregistered machine gun. I just wonder what I have and if it is a fully functional machine gun I will give it to someone with a permit to own it. There is a guy at the range that I go to who has his license to own one. I have too much to lose.I am a law abiding handgun owner with a family so I sure don't need any trouble. I bought this thing at a garage sale because I thought it would be a cool wall hanger or to make a little money by reselling it. Thank you for your reply and I will continue to try to post pictures. Black River Militaria CII
"FP" is the prefix of the serial number indicating that in the sequence of blocks of serial numbers this gun was assigned that prefix and the serial number following it. Next block would start with "FQ" and the sequential serial from the last number of the previous block. Blocks could be 10,000 or 100,000 serials. This is a Fazakerley made Sten, a small arms factory located near Liverpool that made close to 2 million model MkIIs. Fazakerley made the largest number of Stens during the years of production. "E&C" is the initials of the subcontractor who made the magwell housing, Elkington & Co of Birmingham, GB. There were a couple hundred subcontractors making Sten parts through out production. The gun is a very common example of a standard issue Sten MkII.Sounds to me like the center section of the receiver tube was cut out and destroyed , leaving the front and rear sections with the other parts. This was an approved import destruction method of live, imported MGs for a while quite a few years ago. FWIW
baerowner
Thank you very much Black River. This is all I really wanted to know. Looks like it will be a wall hanger. I really appreciate all of your knowledge and willingness to share. This is a great forum. Baerowner
DINK
There are ways to build a kit into a "non-gun" or dummy gun for display and other ways to build it into a semi-auto that would be legal. You have to follow all the proper procedures carefully to avoid the legal pitfalls, but it can be done. If anyone can advise you, it's Bob at Black River Militaria. baerowner
Thanks everyone. I have been a bit leery about owning it at first. Now I know it will be safe and legal to have it hanging on my wall in my reloading room. You all have eased my mind. Thanks again. Jrickard81
Yep tube was cut. The mag well portion slides over the "bolt tube" receiver . They could rotate to make storing take up less space.
