DZelenka
What would be the correct finish for a C&R Sterling Mk II? Flat black or wrinkled black? assume it is an export model.
PTRS-14.5
All I have seen are flat blk from WW2. The two originals that just came are amnesty guns and are finished this way. Edited March 11, 2016 by PTRS-14.
Frank I.
As I recall from Peter Laidlers "Guns of Dagenham" book... The military guns were flat black, commercial - police guns had the crinkle finish.
nuge
The flat black is definitely nice. Here's a transferable replica of a 1958 military Sterling L2A3 made by Rick over at CPS. He uses black Duracoat over parkerizing to resemble the original Suncorite finish used for the Sterling military guns.
m3bobby
Just to add, originally commercial guns had the wrinkle finish and the majority had a KR or S prefix serial number. Any UK military gun would be Suncorite black and have a UF or US prefix in the format UF58 A1234. Many users such as New Zealand refinished their guns in Sunc after a refurb. I've also noted some NZ Sterlings in a park finish only.
