cocoabill
I'm looking at this L drum I'm trying to decide if it's authentic or not and whether I should buy it? Opinions please. Looks nos but not sure of period or if knock off.
ppgcowboy
I am a skeptic on this one, I see a knockoff. But wait for someone with who knows drums to chime in. I am no authority on drums.....yet.
cocoabill
Looking at pinned section on drums, I'm thinking Kahr knock off sort of.
TD.
It looks like a West Hurley L drum to me. Turn it over or remove the winding key and see if it has a solid center shaft.
mgvince
From what I've seen in the books and the forum. A true New York drum will say, New York. N.Y. USA
cocoabill
I passed, was at an auction only went for $70, probably should have snapped it up.
anjong-ni
I see some pretty poor rivets and mushy dies. Laser engraving. My West Hurley-made magazine has the same features and lettering but is beautifully made. But...if it was a functional drum...it was certainly worth $70! huggytree
if it was real it most likely would have gone for much more than $70 i think there is 1 or 2 on GB now for $450 range...which i think is a good deal still
joseph12297
It is definitely a knock off, but $70 for a shooter is a good deal
Normal1959
For $70 i would have bought it and hung it on the christmas tree as a decoration.Eric
Chopper28
Looks like a WH to me. May or may not work or fit he gun properly. But could be made to work by Merle the Drum Dr. Definately worth $70. Just my .
colt21a
So lets see back in the day Hurleys sold for over $110.00 dealer so 70 today is no deal..I would have bought that for a paperweight. Even the old ten round drums sell for that today and the gutted Jap replicas for the early MGC GUNS.This was the bargain of the century for Thompson stuff. At Sar show next weekend they will probably ask 300.Colt21a
TSMG28
Cocoabill, From what I see, ithe drum you were looking at was a West Hurley. Very few of these work without major repair. With the Taiwan repro drums at less than $200 and 100% reliable, you really didn't miss out. I agree with Ron. Other than the examples in my drum display, I consider them paperweights. Edited November 28, 2016 by TSMG28
67ray
It probably doesn't work. You saved yourself a headache.
