buzz
I don't know much about vintage Thompson accessories, but I would be willing to bet my life's savings that thing is not a Thompson drum case. It looks like a vintage ladies' hard leather handbag. The lady in the circa 1890 jaunty hat on the medallion is kind of a giveaway. It's a bit light hearted and feminine for 1920s police gear. koldt
I researched one of those leather cases a few years ago. Turns out they are for survey instruments.
buzz
I'm doubtful that it was a carry case for a survey instrument like a transit, level, compass, alidade, etc. Vintage survey equipment is usually carried and stored in wood cases that have felt padded wood partitions that keep the instrument from being jarred. Sometimes you do see satchels and holster for walking around with the instrument, but if it was a satchel for something like a survey barometer it would be custom fitted to hold the instrument. Also, the medallion of the lady and the small, neatly done stitching makes me think it was lady's purse, since hard round leather purses are common. Sandman1957
Not implying this is one, but the Marines did have leather cases made for drums in Nicaragua in the 1928 -1932 period. Bill Lee carried some. I have never seen one personally, only what he described. It should have a belt loop and a leather shoulder strap. Someone on this forum most likely has one. They also had their own leather case made for the thompson.

Sgt
I bought a small case like that some years ago. I was told then that it was a case that held projector reels. Not sure if mine was the same as yours but it does look a lot like it.

timkel
Antique night watchmans clock case?Basically the watchman would make his rounds carring this clock. At certain locations in the plant, keys were located being attached by a chain. By using each key in the clock, the time and location of the watchman was recorded through his shift. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ANTIQUE-NIGHT-WATCHMANS-LEATHER-CLOCK-CASE-B-A-T-S-CO-ORNATE-TOOLED-BRASS-TOP-/400483568739?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d3eae4c63&nma=true&si=KY%252BiBjf09WeLbtST8XvvgYZc%252FMQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
