Experience With Brp Mg42-sa?

Well, I have one of the BRP MG42 SA guns and I would not sell it for anything, I love it! BUT, I have had some minor problems with feeding. It appeared that the belt feed pawls were not working properly, but that was not the problem after shooting a belt from the 50 rd drum mounted on the feed block, it would pull the belt fine. I was told to use WWII German belts and this seems to have solved most of the feed problems, but it still fails to feed a round sometimes. One thing for sure; make sure the belts are CLEAN and OILED before loading. I clean the belts well and then take an oiled cloth and run it into every link and then keep the oiled belt in zip-lock bags ready to load.

As to ammo, mine prefers the Romanian surplus 8mm ammo. BRP does not recommend using the Turk ammo because of the problems may folks have had. Also, the surplus 8mm is corrosive so you will have fun cleaning the gun

When I took it to the range the first time, I was ready to throw it in the creek as it would not fire 2 rounds in a row. When I returned home, I found that the disconnector had a small burr where it was shortened. Once I removed this burr, it was fine. What was happeneing is when the hammer was cocked, and the disconnector was holding the hammer in the secondary postion, and you let go of the trigger, it would not release the hammer to the main sear. Therefore, it would not fire. That problem was easy to fix once I figured out what happened.

Al in all, my SA MG42 is not perfect, but it is a blast to shoot of the "Feldlafette" or AA Tripod. You can tap the handle and get a nice rate of fire. Also, you will be the talk of the range too! Keep us posted if you get one

I have just ordered a 7.62 barrel and feed tray for an MG1 setup, so I have not tried that yet
