28 Thompson Value?

Recommended Posts

What would a mismatched beat up 28 Bridgeport Thompson bring these days? Gun has been reparked and bead blasted several times. Internals do not match but it runs well. Looking for a ball park on its value. Edited by ammo

I'd concur on that 15K figure.....

this sounds just like my gun, except mine wasn't parked, it was polished up a bit and blued (the former owner really wanted a Colt!!) http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/dry.gif

Anyway, that's what I have mine insured for.

...but it runs well.

Aahhhh, the most important part. I would rather own a beat-up Thompson that runs great rather than a museum piece that sputters.

Ok, I will be the first to start.....let the flames begin... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

For the description $15K is too much.

Realisticly, I would put it around $11-12 without seeing it. I wouldn't put it at the $15k price if you can get that for a nice one. Or even a grand more. I know most will say bullshit, but it's not a 15k gun.

ok, flame me boys.

I have to agree with Philohio. Instead of a slow rise in price, M-1 Carbine, M-1911A1, or M-1 Rifle style, the Thompson has flown through the roof! A handful MAY be worth $20,000+ (unissued condition), but the run of the litter military issue Tommygun, never. But, like oil, gold, and stocks, Thompsons are a market driven commodity. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/sad.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/mad.gif http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif

Wait until the new King Kong movie hits the screen. Lots of Thompson's I hear. And it's in the talks for another( yes another) movie about the most likable bank robber, John Herbert Dillinger.

the days of a mint cond.colt 21a was $15,000.00 only about 5 years ago.....sad huh???

now a good cond. savage bringing that!!!

i guess thats why i will just hold on to the 21a and the 1928a1................and let everybody have "Thompson Greed" and watch all the dealers and collectors go crazy over it all,and sit back and just................relax............

they can hit $50,000 for all i care.just now the people that really want one can't afford one.that's the sad tale most of all..........even mr/above average soon will be out of the market...............

who here makes $100,000.00 a year, and will buy a gun for $50,000.00.............................not me............ and for the most part.95% of the guys here can't and won't either.................lets not let the thompson ego's burst.........

thats the sad fact's of it all................

maybe some gold is the answer................ummm!!

wink!! take care,ron

It is not only Thompson prices that are rising fast. Has anyone watched UZi's, MP-5's and M-16's. Even the prices for sear guns and tube guns are going nuts! http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif

I guess you are not just buying an inanimate object anymore...you get the whole mental package that goes with a Thompson,or BAR,or whatever...you picture youself dumpin`a drum and how cool it looks or hanging it on the wall...all those images help you justify spending the mula...my .02,out. http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/wink.gif

i've dumped a drum from my 28 thats coming in. it was fun, but not something i need to do often. i have even given thought of trading my 28 for a M1/M1A1 when the transfer comes through. it just be the frame of mind, whenever i think of thompson's i think of the classic WWII thompson (M1), not the 28 style gun. dunno.

missing one eye, leg and ear, nickname is "Lucky" http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Just kidding. $15,000 is way high for that condition. Can't give a value because I haven't seen one that rough for sale.........ever http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif

The 1928 TSMG is always on my mind with WWII. All sorts of photos of US and Commonwealth troops in North Africa, Italy, and the Pacific. One that pops into mind is Capt Ron Speirs (sp?)from Ambrose's Band of Brothers book. The 1928 is my dream Thompson. Got my eye on one with Brit proofs and Brit wood in beauty condition for $15,000. Owner doesn't want to sell just yet. Damn.

I wonder what the Savage M1a1 will cost in about a year. Do you expect it to reach the 16K range by then?

http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/blink.gif 15k? Good Lord! At the present U.S. dollar - Philippine peso exchange rate that'll be 840,000 pesos. Dang it, thats three and a half YEARS salary for me here! I really am eyeing my Savage 1928a1 with some new-found respect... http://www.machinegunbooks.com/forums/invboard1_1_2/upload/html/emoticons/tongue.gif
