Armydoc0115
Hi everyone, Has anyone ever reactivated an RPG (RPG-2 or RPG-7) and been able to fire any projectiles with it while keeping under the 4oz propellant limit? I know, it would require a Form 1 to reactivate, but as I understand it, you don't have to register projectiles if you use less than 4 oz of propellant. Thanks! Armydoc0115
Appears I need to do a little more checking. I'm not sure if it's 4 oz or 1/4 oz. Big difference between the two and I've seen it both ways.
Armydoc0115
OK, went right to the source. 4 oz of propellant, 1/4 oz of explosive charge is the legal limit. Now back to my original query....
eodinert
Old topic, I know, but I'll throw this out in case anybody is interested. My opinion (worth what you paid for it): The PG7 projectile has a launch motor and a sustainer motor. The launch motor is not a rocket, the sustainer motor is. An argument could be made that a training rocket (that is not explosive, incendiary, or poison gas) with a rocket motor of greater than four ounces is not a destructive device, based on...well...the law. The term “destructive device” means— (A) any explosive, incendiary, or poison gas— (i) bomb, (ii) grenade, (iii) rocket having a propellant charge of more than four ounces, (iv) missile having an explosive or incendiary charge of more than one-quarter ounce, (v) mine, or [snip] The PG-2 is not a rocket at all, and as such, does not have any propellant limits described or suggested in the wording of the law. It's just a 'recoilless launcher'. To answer the question, I do have a live registered DD RPG-2, but I mostly work overseas and I have not had time for load development (it's at home in AZ). I considered doing an RPG-7, but I plan to put it next to my head and fire it, and the rocket is a lot more complex than the black powder charge on the PG-2. Mad Machinist
I just recently completed a Form 1 build of an RPG-2 for a good friend. Working up propellent charges now and wil be basing the projectile off a chinese training projectile that duplicates the weight of an original round. Warhead will be 3d printed and marking charge will consist of 7 grams (.25 ounces ) of Potassium Perchlorate/Aluminum flash powder. I can assure you the report of 7 grams is quite satisfying Marking will be chalk and the flash will basically disintigrate the printed nose section. I have tested a proof of concept propellant charge in a tube strapped to a stand with a piece of aluminum pipe with sand in it as a projectile. It didn't blow up Much more testing before ANYONE puts it next to their face and fires it LOL Will probably be offering the inert training rounds in the future with laser cut fins like the original and with purchase will supply the stl fime for the nose. Not sure when, as I am a one man shop with a part time......and pretty much stay buried. Edited August 21, 2022 by Mad Machinist
Rekraps
Of course you could all just take an extended vacation into the middle east and shoot all you want.... with live rounds. I understand that the number one (#1) rated range in in a town called GAZA. Very lax safety standards though.
