Cody805
I was referred here by a friend. He said maybe you guys can help me out. I have what I believe is to be one of only a few known in existence V for Victory marked Sparks-Withington manufactured Thompson Submachine gun magazines. Can anyone tell me more about this please. Also what is something like that worth? Thanks guys New member Cody! Edited March 26, 2019 by Cody805
TSMG28
Cody, Welcome to the forum. The V stamped mags are not common, but they are not rare either. All four of the WWII manufacturers stamped the V on their mags, probably during 1942. Note that the Crosby prototype XXX mag that was evaluated by the military in late 1941 actually had a V stamped at the bottom. Most sellers dont pay any attention to the V stamped mags, so most of us have gotten them when purchasing a group of mags. That said, for those looking to acquire them for a collection, they will often bring a premium of $10-30 over a standard XXX mag. Cody805
So it is pretty uncommon? That other thread made it sound very hard to find. I know the other V marked mags are common but a Sparks Withington with the V? I also dont see a example in the sticky magazine thread? michaelkih
Cool magazine. People just dont pay much more for them. Rarer doesnt always mean high demand and therefor price. Simple as that.
TSMG28
Cody, Michael said it well. Granted, Sparks-Withington made the fewest XXX mags of the four manufacturers, but they still made 2.8 million. We have no documentation that tells how long each manufacturer stamped the V on their mags, but they all did it. Roger
ron_brock
If you want to sell, list it somewhere with a good description. Gunbroker could be an option with and opening bid of what you would like and the possibility of it being bid up. The market is a few Thompson geeks (small subset of Thompson owners) that like this type of stuff. I suspect there are quite a few V marked mags out there. Most Ive bought looking through a pile of mags. None were more than $35. The dealers look at me funny and asked why Im looking through all of them. Similar to wanting a United Specoalities marked XX mag or Israeli marked or soldered holes. All unique mags, but only a handful of folks have any interest in them. That being said, its a neat little wartime Thompson item. Ron
