New Zealand - Turn in “military style” semi auto guns by September?

Recommended Posts

You guys have to turn in your semi autos by September? What about your full autos and cannons etc? Is this load of bullshit in this article true? I know the media has a way of spreading false news, so Id rather hear it from you gun owners in New Zealand. True? Not true? Comply? Dont comply? I sure hope this isnt true. Very sad if so.

You probably have seen the news about the process starting down there. You should also read the bio on Ardern in Wikipedia, where it shows she was trained as a communist since childhood. It's all as sad as it is around the world, with mass confiscations occurring in Canada this year with losses of over 10000. There are mass confiscations of multi thousands all over the US almost all the time too.

My NZ friends tell me that if you did not turn in your military style semi the authorities would eventually visit your home to get them. One particular gent had a group of 3 or 4 armed men come and ask for two of his guns. One was all decked out like a swat guy, except he was overweight and under-trained. Anyhow, the guns were collected based on the registration having been revoked.

The irony here is that this same kiwi owns a legally registered MG and he was allowed to keep it. Still has it.

Just to complete the request - I’m a firearms collector from NZ

In 2019 the New Zealand Government rushed through un democratic firearms laws that basically banned the use of centre fire semi automatics (except semi shotguns that have a capacity of 5+1 or less) and mandated a firearms register for all legally held firearms (there has already been some breaches and issues with this register to date - the latest being this one ….)

 https://www.ipca.govt.nz/Site/Outcomes/2024-summaries-of-police-investigations/24-nov-28-south-island-firearms-and-police-computer.aspx?ref=goodoil.news

A police officer was buying guns and registering them to random unknowing register users.

All these bans and changes were all implemented to “make us safer” and eliminate general civilian access to all sorts of sporting and hunting rifles. However it is prolifically the gangs causing harm to others then themselves (suicide) in NZ and gun crime has continued to rise steadily despite the ban and register.

There are exceptions however. If you are proven as a bonifide pest controller you can own and use centre fire semi autos for this purpose.

Then there is me. Im a C category collector that can own anything under the sun, as long as I never shoot it (This is not a new thing). I’m essentially a custodian of these items and that is it.
They are all fully functional and good to go however.

Here is and an example of where the new law gets dumb.
Because I have a centre fire semi auto like the M1 Garand, I must keep a critical component of it under lock and key at another C cat collectors house that is known to police.
But a belt feed machine gun, grenade launcher, MP5 or Uzi for example does not have this requirement. Only a critical part removed and stored elsewhere in my house.

Another dumb new law is that every semi/full auto magazine/clip in the country has to be registered, serialised permanently and known to police.
Yes… even an M1 Garand Enbloc.
Bolt Action magazine are exempt.

Hope that helps any curious reader out. We are still better off than most other non US western countries, but have certainly lost a lot recently.

P.S two thirds of New Zealand absolutely despise Jacinda Ardern. Her and her inadequate Labour Party decimated many of our freedoms and interests during their infamous reign. Remembering we moved strait into harsh covid mandates for 1.5 years at the end of 2019.

Ruined our economy.

Years ago instead an article called the Slippery Slope of gun control, looking at the example of England.

Could not find it when your post reminded me of it, but found the link below.

And we also now have a Labour govt., destroying our already weak economy 😥
