thirtyround
Gents, I'm looking for an M1 Carbine barrel for a SBR project. I wanted to start here first as I would rather buy from someone on the boards. Basically nothing fancy, Prefer well used GI good shooter, I dont care about the manufacture... just need a good shooter that I can clean up. Please PM me and let me know if you can part with anything you might have, Thanks, JB
TSMGguy
Didn't used to think much about the cost and availability of original spare parts. They were always out there. Some cost more than others. Then I put a fairly nice 1943 Winchester low-wood walnut M1 carbine stock and handguard on eBay. The stock was nothing special. It had probably been lightly sanded, but it was not skinny or wavey. The markings were in nice shape. There were more than 30 bidders, and the stock sold for well over $1,000. thirtyround
Yes Sir, its a project in waiting for many years now and I have procrastinated to long, so im attempting to get'r done... Might have waited to long. I would even take a chopped or cut barrel if it would be long enough on the front end.
Frenchkat
What length are you looking for? Numrich has demilled 8 - 9 inch barrels and Fulton has 11 inch. About 10 years ago I was looking to replace a bulged Alpine barrel (bought it like that for a very good price). Found one of those new demilled barrels that had a 5 - slot L1A1 flash hider welded on to make it a legal length. Replaced that flash hider with an extended length M16 birdcage style and had it welded. Still 16” Also replaced the Alpine receiver with a NPM receiver and dropped it into a repo M1A1 stock. All other parts. USGI. Handy little truck gun.Point is, new barrel that just needed the chambered reamed just a bit for a very low price. You could find an old Universal or other commercial carbine and use the barrel. Edited February 9, 2022 by Frenchkat
thirtyround
Thanks for the scoop! My direction has changed a bit.... decided to go with finding a commercial or GI beater carbine when I can find one at a beater price (yeah I know) Paper it, get approved then send it off for the chop.
