What am I missing in this auction

Recommended Posts

You are not missing anything. Just two bidders going against each other who HAD to have this mag. Looks like a standard Colt Patent Date to me. Certainly not worth $901.

A lot of buyers out there have more money than sense. Then again, they havent made any of these since 1939, so at some point it may be worth that, especially with inflation.

Had a friend who wanted something but kept getting sniped at the last second . Had to go to an event , so he placed a stupid high bid so he'd be sure to get it . Told me about it at the party and I said " Great ! Now if nobody else does the same..."

Ruined the party for him . He won the item at a decent price.

Seeing these recent GB auction prices are making me think that I won't be finding an original or repop flat ejector or another Savage 1928/1928A1 trigger frame for a display gun anytime soon (or it will cost me both arms and a leg to acquire them).

What are the going rates for a patent date mag or the plain ones too ?

Depends on condition. Nice ones were going for about $125.00 a few years ago, maybe more now. Blank ones are harder to find, so maybe in the $150.00 range. Of course, with the new crop of Thompson buyers on GunBroker paying over $1,000.00 for a reproduction spare parts kit, who knows what someone might pay for one.

Looks like $1725 for the magazine...and $1800 for the Herigstad parts box.

The seller must be a member on this board, I wonder if he would chime in on his opinion on the prices these item sold for.

I have sold several Patent Date mags on Gunbroker in the previous 6 months. They were in VG-EXC condition, but had a flat finish so had probably been sandblasted and reblued. They went for around $85-$95. I had one with the original bright finish that went for $125.
