WTB: V marked XXX magazines

Recommended Posts

WTB: I am looking for V marked XXX magazines to complete my collection. I am looking for A-O, SW CO, Crosby or Seymour XXX magazines that are V marked on either the top or bottom front edge. I have XXX magazines to trade or cash. Please send me a private message if you have any you want to trade or sell so I may hopefully complete my magazine collection.

The V stamping looks like this:

If you have not bought member TSMG28 book Thompson Submachine Gun Magazines 1917-2021 I would encourage you to do so. It is a great reference book. They are pictured and discussed on page 156.

Uncle Dudley,

No, the V was added by all U.S. mag manufacturers in the latter half of 1942, supposedly as an encouragement to both the workers and fighting men.

I once made an offer to trade a,v mag for a correct patent date mag of same quality. I may still consider it. Need to find em though. Have two and one to trade.

I am still looking for an Auto Ordnance Corp, SW CO, and Crosby XXX magazines that are V marked on either the top or bottom front edge. I have XXX magazines to trade or cash. Please send me a private message if you have any you would want to trade or sell.

If you want to send one to Richard (rpbcps) across the pond in England for the 80th VE anniversary that would be great.

I had no idea they were so rare/unusual. I believe I have a few somewhere in my stash. I also have a few odd XXX mags that look like they’re finished in a heavy grey epoxy/ceramic.

Bill, unusual may be a good term for them. They are not rare, more likely just not noticed all the time when collectors are going though magazines. The other factor is being from 1942 production they are more likely to have seen use in the war.

Well, if it's any consolation, I HAVE the (period-correct) stamp.

Free to use to anyone that wants a plagiarized "V"-magazine.

                       I won't tell....   Phil

Is the stamp 3/16” or 3/10 ? I like to be able to spot the fake 1942 V marked magazines.

Snooze you lose, I called Russ today and found out I was the third person that had contacted him regarding the AOC V marked magazine. The first person traded for it.

For unknown reasons, nearly all of the V-stamped mags are among those converted for semi-auto guns. Apparently Numrich found and/or imported a bunch of mags from that period.

Most conversions were done reasonably well, but some had Bubba involved.
