FNC/Sterling AR-180/Ruger AAC

Recommended Posts

Of those three, I'd go with the FNC.  Parts are out there, uses standard, reliable M-16/AR-15 mags, and conversions are reliable.

I'm a big fan of the AR-18/180.  But parts are scarce, barrel replacement is a PITA, and mags have to be converted from M-16 mags or original mags bought at astronomical prices.

The Ruger is problematic.  Parts for the full-auto one are hard to find.  Some conversions are not factory-spec, aftermarket mags are suspect, and factory mags are pricey.

I own neither but did look into possibly buying one or the other a few years ago. Here is what I found out, all the FNC's are after market mods (no issues there, but just so we know), while the Ruger AAC can be had with both factory FA and aftermarket. My local FFL just happens to have a FNC select fire in the store and it looks and feels great. I have heard that both guns are readily available and on the market (a quick search shows plenty of stock available) but the Rugers are coming in at a lower price point. Reviews say both guns shoot well, with the FNC being the only gun adopted for Military use.

What I concluded is that the FNC would be the one I would have chosen, only because it looks more "cool".

I have heard that fnc breech bolts are a must have and only obtainable from old guns....

I went the ar180 route... I've sourced my parts from Pete FLEIS.... but truly should get a few spares whatever way you go.... once you consider spare parts you'll be in the ar15 registered receiver price range.

It's a fun quest.

While the FNC may be military adopted, the Ruger was A-Team adopted, that gets way more points in my book and I love it when a plan comes together

You sir are a very astute and wise man. Forgot about the "A" team!
