Lewisfan
Has anyone played with trigger modifications with the SW76 or MK760 types? I have a spare MK760 lower, complete with frame, selector, etc. It seems that this could be modified with a Swed K sear, trigger, etc to get rid of the existing lever bar design? Has anyone had good results modifying the existing trigger design? This is a very simple design. I would think that a completely new lower could be made. The same goes for the magwell. Couldn't this be modified to be removable and run with Suomi sticks and drums? Any input would be appreciated!

I'm sure that MaxFaxDude, Got Uzi or Stranger Ranger have delved into this area.
StrangeRanger
The biggest problem with the OEM design is that the tip of the relatively soft laminated trigger bar wears and causes the gun to become a semi-auto. It can be repaired by welding it up, re-machining and case hardening the new tip. Rather than redesign the FCG another fix would be to make a new trigger bar out of a piece of high carbon steel and harden it to something north of Rc 50. I planned to do this to my Burgess 76 clone but I sold it instead Edited May 1 by StrangeRanger
Lewisfan
Yes, have had the welded up bar on 2 prior MK760. Looking at this spare lower just makes me think that a better (read less than 10# pull) trigger assembly would be nice. The Swed K has a nice trigger so that could be a starting point. I am certainly not a machinist, however it would seem to me a bit hazardous to modify a open bolt SMG trigger pull weight to less than around #10. I would think that this feature was specific to open bolt SMG's and the inherent danger of misfires.
StrangeRanger
"Safe" weight of pull varies from design to design but 10# seems excessive in just about any case and likely to hamper controlability without increasing safety. Something in the range of 7# seems generally more practical again depending on design. My Burgess 76 had a particularly miserable pull but I attributed that to the drag of the crappy laminated trigger bar on the selector more than to any inherent flaw in the FCG geometry. Making a solid bar with hardened finish-machined surfaces might or might not have solved that problem. I just sold the gun before I got around to trying it
buckeye10216
Variable for sure. My K is a very consistent 4 lbs and I feel "safe" with it (i.e. no accidental fires). I had to buy a different trigger pull measuring device to even measure the SW76 as mine is 12-14lbs. Just for interest, the Chauchat 1915 is 18 lbs (you really can almost hang it from a tree by it's trigger without it going off)! My record holder is the HK Vp70 SA pistol which had an absolutely brutal 20-21 lbs!
StrangeRanger
Hanging a Chauchat from a tree sounds like a good idea, right along with the idiot who designed it 🙄

The trigger pull could be lightened some, but with all that's going on there, it's not really a good idea, you want to be holding on tight. For the time, the gun was extremely innovative and effective machine rifle. At the time it was that or the Madsen....there was nothing else like it. I think an open bolt gun with less than 7-8# is kind of dangerous IMO.
