Sig
Trying to make sure we don’t violate any copyright laws, posting just a Twitter link to an unusual protest photo with a Thompson among other things banned in pictures. David Albert and I do not remember seeing this prior. Twitter link

Mike Hammer
No violation my friend, this photo is has been out there for many many years. This photo was made to show the public what the film industry sensors of the time would not allow to be seen in a finished Hollywood film. Things have been shall we say”relaxed” quite a bit since those days. There are pretty much no limits to what can be shown in a motion picture today. TSMG28
The Thompson looks like a fake or prop gun. The barrel is heavy barrel style, but short. The front sight, foregrip, and drum also look different/wrong. Great staged pic!
Mike Hammer
Whitey Schafer was a terrific Hollywood stills photographer. I have a number original prints of his in my collection. My other favorite was George Hurrell. By the way, all sizes of prints of this photo are available from many sources if you would like a copy. They even have them colorized! aut-ord-co
I've used this photo several years ago in a Thompson PowerPoint history at a library presentation. It had sequential arrows linking each prohibition to the pictured item. Always received a good response from the attendees.
anjong-ni
Stretching the rules was in fashion then, as it is NOW. Yet by 1941 morality had returned and we all got together and made/watched films that showed that The Good Guys did INDEED always win. ...Phil

Morality is long gone, especially in the medical community. It is a cool photo though! The only thing that is a vice now is smoking, which is not listed.
