Form 4 to Dealer wait-time update

Guys, I heard from a reliable source that starting around the end of March of this year, the ATF started to process Form 4's to Dealers like any other Form 4 submission, instead of expediting them in a separate que. So, like me, you may be wondering why your Form 4 to Dealer transfer is taking forever....

Thank you ATF. I guess the new director is really focused on efficiency.

I think that's erroneous

I filed a Form 4 to SOT transfer on 3/30.  Approval was 6 or 7 weeks

Gotcha.  My seller one end of March and we're still waiting. I think we have an overlap of submission dates.

Anyone else?

I went today start my purchase  of a out of state M/G and the dealer told me some funny news from the ATF.

He said he was advised by the ATF all Form 4 M/G's ( mine being a out of state individual to him then to me)had to go the paper route and not eforms.  In addition they wanted papered finger print card and not etf files.

He was going to double check with them again on this issue,  but he was confused as hell due to the "new", policy.

That really doesn't sound right.

No that sounds correct if I’m understanding you correctly.

Eform 4’s are currently only for dealers to other entities, a non dealer entity can’t use a eform 4 yet even if it would be going to a dealer.

That will be coming at some point in the future but until then we’re stuck with paper.

This is probably it.  He did a tranfer a year or so ago  from a dealer to a individual over eforms with SS kiosk.  This is from a individual to him then to me, he is a relatively new SOT, so probably still learning the idiosyncrasies of all this stuff.

Thanks for clarification of this matter.

Hi,

FWIW, in the last year we have done at least 10 E-file Form 4 from the shop (SOT) to local individuals.  These were done using BATF's E-file system w/o help from other support organizations.  Everything went well.  Transfer times varied from 41 days to 6 months.  We were quite shocked at the 41 days but the buyer was happy.

Our experience.  YMMV.

Grasshopper

ps.  Unless things have recently changed (and they might), your gun should go paper 4 to your local dealer on a 5320.4 (paper).  From the local dealer to you on a 5320.4 (e-file or paper).  If the seller is using his own local dealer there will be a form 3 between the two SOTs.
