Note that I checked the Die Machinenpistol (MP40) data base and this gun is not listed. A quick examination of the gun and description shows it's not a matching gun (bolt/recoil assembly/folding stock arm & maybe other locations I could not see), and the refinish job on it was terrible. Looks like no prep work was done to the metal at all prior to bluing.

I would classify this gun as a shooter.

I looked at it, seemed pretty expensive for a non-matching refinished gun, didn't feel right, plus I already have two.

I've been to that shop.  The seller is pretty clueless, though assumes he's an expert?  Non matching, refinished, is not "super cool" it's a shooter at best.  "we buy collections of all sizes".  That may be true, but he'd have a hard time scratching 30K together for any collection.   Their specialty area is ghetto blasters......and running trace requests.  One of the few places I felt I should have been carrying in, due to the customers in there?

Thomas Stewart has a Wilson tube gun listed at $19K and an all matching German original listed at $23K

An all matching MP40 for $23K? Wow. Well below market if it's in even half decent shape.

Stewart isn't some fly-by-night dealer, I've never dealt with him but he seems to be pretty highly regarded.  If he says it's 85% you can probably take that to the bank (along with the additional $7-8K that you didn't have to spend to buy it.)  It's an incoming gun so he says has priced it low because of the inevitable delays

It appears that website has not been updated in the past few years.

Agree. Too bad as it is an excellent reference. My gun is on it.... and that was important when i bought it a few years ago.
