My daughter found the complete “Combat!” Series on DVDs a couple of years back.  The switch in season 5 to color episodes was a big deal at the time.

Of course we have talked about this series many times here over the last 20 odd years, if you want the full-scoop on the series try to pick up a copy of Jo Davidsmeyer's excellent book:  "Combat! A Viewer's Companion to the WWII TV Series". It covers every episode of the entire series, great photos and insights into the making of the now classic series. It may be out of print now so the price of used copies may be getting a bit expensive.

The book is fantastic, has all kinds of inside trivia and notes on each episode as well as a synopsis of each. Some of the notes on guest stars are entertaining, and there were so many, Lee Marvin's hollow leg at the bar each night etc.

COMBAT!

The exact reason I wanted a Thompson every day since age 12.  Only took nearly half a Century, but I did get there.

Had to go each Tuesday to a friend's house to watch. Our TV didn't get the ABC channel. We did get the other two networks.

Was often disappointed when it was Rick Jason's turn.  He only had the Carbine.  Turns out Rick was the only real gun guy of the two.
