StrangeRanger
A while back someone posted a picture of a lever/spoon type of loader (similar to the Sten Mk4) for the PPSh. I can't find the picture now anyone know what thread it was in? And if you have one you're looking to sell PM me. I've had it with the $#^$@% plunger type loader

Roland the Thompsongunner
Here are two I picked up years back. Both work ok. I think the black one is Chinese? And the other is an aftermarket made one
Rekraps
How interesting. How does the Chinese one work? The OEM (Russian) ones work well, a tad complicated to make, but they work well.
Roland the Thompsongunner
It’s kind of akward to use as you kind of hold the mag and push down the follower or top round with it and then hold it until you slide the new round in. Outsider
Anyone have more pictures of different loaders for the PPSH that work good? Looking for the best design to work from in making a 3d printed one. I am waiting on my form 4 so I am working on the odds and ends I will need for shooting it as soon as the form comes back. Mongo
I've never shot my gun with any thing other than a drum. I have some mags but do not have a loader either.
RoscoeTurner
This the only original Russian type I am aware of. The manual the drawing is from is dated 1955.
Outsider
Anyone got a pic of the lever type loader?
Rekraps
The OEM plunger types work just fine. What is the issue?
StrangeRanger
The plunger type doesn't work all that well, at least mine doesn't. It does not push the cartridge stack down quite far enough to allow me to simply drop the next cartridge in. I have to slip the top of rim under the feed lips at a slight angle and pivot the cartridge down then push it back; easily enough done at cartridge #1 very difficult by the time I get to cartridge #30. Also the plunger loader provides exactly zero mechanical advantage so those last few cartridges are nearly impossible to load. A lever/spoon type loader (think Sten Mk 4) would be a huge improvement. Ah. So I have found most loaders have the same type of issue. If you just insert the round just pass the rim they slide in nicely. If you push them in too far they get stuck for some reason. Same applies for the M3 and Thompson!
StrangeRanger
That's not what happens with mine. The plunger doesn't push the rounds down far enough to drop the next in. I have to put the top edge of the round that I am trying to feed in at an angle and use it to leverage the whole stack down. Once I get it in I can only push it a very short way or it interferes with the plunger and prevents it from retracting. Once the plunger retracts I can slide the round into place. The whole time I'm fighting both the mag spring and the loader spring which becomes increasingly more force as the mag fills. A lever/spoon type loader like the Sten Mk 4 would get the loader out of the way of the round I'm trying to feed and give me some mechanical advantage to overcome the combined spring pressure. Outsider
I just picked up some spare mags from Bowman while I wait for my transfer to come thru. So I will see what I can come up with for a design for a good loader.
