APEXgunparts Posted March 12 Report Share Posted March 12 The M14 is a lot handier than the 1918A2 BAR. The Smith Enterprise / USCG muzzle brake adds control to the M-14 in full auto. If the US Army had something like the M-14 in WW2 to supplement the M1918 it would have had interesting results. Instead the it ends up replacing the M1918A2 in Vietnam! Rekraps Posted March 12 Author Report Share Posted March 12 Yes, when you look at the history, there was a huge resistance to issuing automatics to the common soldier. Even the Germans used K98's for the common man, MP40's for leadership and of course lots of MG teams. Had they all weapons (like the later Russian forces) that were automatic the tide may have shifted the other way. WW2 for the US was similar, the M1 Garand, while a great gun, did not have the ammo capacity nor the automatic mode that would have really made a difference. That's why the M2 carbine was so popular, and why the Thompson and M3 were the guns everyone wanted. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
