aussie-ex Pat
Hello All; I found a new repro stock but there seems to be several flavours on the Tommy Gun. Did the 1928 "Chicago Typewriter" use this stock?
Taliaferro
This appears to be a WwII Model 1928A1 style stock. Any markings? Tracie
gijive
Yes, that is a 1928 A1 stock made in 1942 or 1943 as a replacement on the 1928A1 gun. The bolt through the front end gave it stability from cracking. So, no it would not have been on a 1928 Colt gun. I assume that is what you are talking about when you refer to it as a "Chicago-Typewriter". The 1921 stocks did not have the reinforcement bolt on them. There seems to be a lot of minor differences in the models. What was the "Classic" buttstock that we see in the American Ganster movies?
Mike Hammer
Your “classic gangster stock” would be the one gijive just referenced. The ‘21 stock without the reinforcement bolt.
TD.
aussie-ex Pat, Great answers by the above Thompson forum members. May I suggest a fantastic inexpensive book that will answer most if not all of your basic questions and provide a great foundation of knowledge for the Thompson submachine gun. Frank Iannamico's, American Thunder, Third Edition, is priced at $39.99 on Amazon.com with free shipping. While there are other great books on Thompson guns on the market, this one provides all the information a new enthusiasts will need. Hard cover with a dust jacket for 40 bucks; I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
