Chopper28
Has anyone here had experience shooting this ammo in the FA TSMG. Comes in a White box which says "Western Super X 185gr Match FMC SWC Clean Cutter". Back of box has the Winchester-Western logo. Got a deal on some at a gun show last weekend. Has any one shot it before? I shot some yesterday in a 28 and it seemed to cycle fine but I was at a range where you could only fire semi auto guns. So I could not try it on FA. Chopper, why would you shoot that when the gun is designed for 230 gn .45 ACP. I shoot 230's and my gun runs like a top. Or..... did you just get a killer deal?
Waldo
I don't know about that particular ammo. But I have shot thousands of rounds of assorted cast and jacketed 185 grain bullets thru my 1928. The first time I shot them, I was with a friend that had just got an M! Thompson. I had my 1928 along. He was a big bullseye shooter and bought along some 185 grain SWCs. His gun would not feed them. I tried some in my gun and it ran just fine. We were shooting at about 15 yards. You could watch the SWCs cutting nice .45 caliber holes in the target. I had never shot anything but 230 grain bullets in my 1928 before, both cast and jacketed. Since then, I have tried 185 grain and 200 grain with no problems. So I think you should try it. Tiz
I have run a lot of 185 gr. SWC in my 28 with no issues. Pretty accurate as well. I can keep 7 out of 10 on an 8 inch pie plate at 100 yards bench rest. Considering the open sights on the Thompson and my old eyes I consider that acceptable. Nice round .45 holes. I cast my own bullets from wheel weights. I plan to try powder coating a batch, rather than lube them, and see how they do.
Chopper28
Thanks for the replies. And yes Rekraps I did get a killer deal on it. My gun runs great with 230 grn Ball also. A friend had it and it would not shoot in his Sig 320 or a Sringfield Armory .45. He just wanted to get rid of it.
