Looking for a battery that goes into the optic battery box

Recommended Posts

it's actually 3 batteries and they are expensive now and they were special order 15 years ago.

There were some conversion adapters for sale years ago that did AA batteries that might still be around?

Been down that road, not really worth it, but it does work.

That would be it, I brought several back with me when I visited Germany in 2007.  Wasn't really worth all the effort since all they do is light up the retical, no real exciting bells or whistles with this.

Got some AA to 3LR12 adapters from Germany.  Am I missing something that connects those batteries together?
I guess I could wire them in series with come wire but that feels completely wrong and not something ze Germanz would do.

I am a little stumped.

How about a pix of the adapter opened up?

This is different Kahlert model but you get the idea

Where are the contacts in the host box?

This is the same adapter as what I have.   How AAs go in the adapter is straight forward.     The problem is how do those adapters go in the battery box?
the top pic above is of inside of the battery box showing contacts.
The only way all 3 battery adapters can go in the box is in the way that the battery contacts don’t touch the contacts on the box.   Battery contacts can be bent outwards but the bottom box contact is on the higher level than the middle one and the top battery is not making an electrical connection at all.

What are the light colored areas about half way down on the hinge side of the box? They look like they are about where the contact points should be

edit:

Looking more closely at one of the earlier pix I realized that those are just reflections.  What you could do is get some copper sheet and fashion a couple of contact strips that mount to the screws on the bottom of the original box and run to the end where they could contact the connectors on the insert box. You'll probably need some way of spring loading the insert into the new contacts

I think that some connector is missing.   Unless battery contacts are supposed to be twisted in some way to touch the contacts on the box.    I can definitely make something that will make it work, it just doesn’t seem like it’s the proper way of doing it.

I think that you probably have the wrong insert box.  You need one with contacts on opposite ends or sides rather than on the same one.  Where you find such a box I don't have a clue

Again, contact bergflak@hotmail.com, at one time was selling the correct adapters he may still have some or have a source.

Also, the EM34 is the correct/preferred rangefinder for MG's.  While they are all similar, they are also sort of specific to different pieces of equipment.   Some are cheap, however the EM34's are sought after so are more expensive.  Artillery RF go for probably less than the case would cost to build today?

BUY the books....they are very informative!

My range finder is EM 1M R36.  I got it as a full box kit.  Although theoretically it’s a basic geometry.   This stereoscopic RF has a lot of different controls and it is less straightforward than one would think.  I need to get a tripod or a shoulder rig to be able to hold it against my face for longer than a few seconds to figure it out.

The R36 is stereoscopic (two eyes)  vs EM34 is a coincidence (one eye peace) range finder.

Stereo is more precise and works berofor moving targets.

Coincidence one is lighter and easier / faster to use.

Nether one can hold a candidateto a cheap modern laser RF.   Form a collector pov I need to own both.
