Mattg203
Hey guys I found an Ohio Ordnance BAR 1918A3 for sale at a too good to pass up price. However, the seller said the firearm has a cycling issue. The firearm will load correctly, fire, but will not cycle. The user has to manually charge the action to feed another round and fire again. Is this an issue anyone has seen before and is it fixable? Thank you for your attention.
jim c 351
Matt, Did you try a larger gas setting? Jim C
AlexanderA
Might be an unmodified GI gas regulator in the gun. The semi requires more gas pressure to operate than the full auto. OOW opens up the three orifices in the GI regulator to larger diameters when they assemble factory semis. If this was a home build (using an OOW receiver kit), the builder might not have bothered to do this. For starters, try firing the gun at the largest setting of the regulator. If this fails, send the regulator to OOW and have them work their magic.
deerslayer
Is the bolt moving at all? Use slow motion setting on your camera to take a video of the action. It's not hard to drill the holes out bigger, but that's a one way street. You go bigger a little bit at a time.
damifino
These are the numbers I was given when I did mine. 1918 FA. .055/.063/.0725 OOW semi. .076/.0885/.093 I was told I could go to .110"
deerslayer
Having made a few pistons and put them in a few different gas tubes, I have found some of them tight, and others loose. It may be the holes are ok but you have a loose fit that doesn't capture much gas.

It's possible that the problem could be related to the hammer riding too high and contacting the bottom of the bolt. Reducing the height of the hammer face by about 1/16th of an inch could help, but it might not completely solve the issue. Another potential cause could be the bolt rails. If they're not properly installed..

Hopefully that isn’t the case to account for its too good to pass up price.

Karl, 68coupe Edit: I have read about several SLRs and full-auto's, that were converted to MOR by circumventing the gas system, and was thinking that it might be possible to do the opposite procedure by making a working gas system, or make one operable again. inertord
Would be great if the OP posts some photos, so we can determine what he actually has.

deerslayer
You ever figure out what the problem is? Piston, gas pot hole size?
