choppero
I have a customer's West Hurley 1928 to replace the POS West Hurley aluminum Lyman copy that was pop riveted on. The drawing I have from NFA toys is a flat tapper head rivet. The Westy is not counter sunk on the inside for the tapper. Is this correct? The rivets I got from SARCO do not fit the sight from the top down (bevel head facing down). I am tempted to turn the head down slightly to fit the sight. I have a riveting anvel I made years ago for riveting 1927's and M1 from Numrich/AOC.
reconbob
FWIW I would countersink the rivet holes on the underside of the receiver and put the rivets in from the bottom and flare the heads on top like the originals I would check that the holes in the receiver are the proper size (most WH seem to be too big). You may need to make your own rivets. Bob
choppero
Ya There is nothing about this West Hurley that is done by a company that cut corners and avoided quality control. The trigger frame wing (guess you'd call it) was machined on one side with spiral chatter and gouges that need a lot of careful filing and finishing to be presentable. I know how they roll. I used to work for the parent company. The policy was "send it out until it doesn't come back". Edited August 31, 2024 by choppero
