colt21a
So that tells you sometimes you get the money back. Jim passed away i guess his estate got the $25 g he paid for the gun. cost me $5 g when i bought it. since i think there is a sellers prem now from MORPHYS, I have not seen #98 or #274 yet. for sale. Around 4 or 5 years ago Jim brought it to SAR show to show me the gun. and the barrel remarks on it. {which it was all correct.} someone told him not original barrel. I Miss him, a great man. AND AVID COLLECTOR. and he was proud of that gun... I know the deals and the trades and the numbers. it was good times.
Colt Chopper
#103 was offered for sale out of Connecticut several years ago, and it looked like it had come from a coal mine. Hardly any finish left, had some pitting, and of course full auto only. Regardless I made a deal to purchase, but then the seller became "Flakey" and I passed. A fellow board member then attempted to purchase with same outcome. Years later I see it SAR and it looks much much better finish wise. I shared this info with Jim, but it fell on deaf ears. TD.
The hammer price for NO 103 at the September 10, 2024 auction was $26,000. Of note, NO 103 was also listed in the earlier May 8th auction and hammered at $30,000. I guess it did not meet the reserve and was re-listed. It will be interesting to see if it met the reserve at this auction. It was a former coal company Colt and there was a barrel issue. The below picture shows the condition. I like NO 103 but understand the prices received at auction.
colt21a
The way i bought it is the way it sold. including the {E}grip and stock. the barrel issue was settled and inside the chamber area its marked #103. like the lower and frame. And same inside old parts like #98.. they removed the barrel to do that and also Gordon checked it out. and i do know somebody took steel wool to the side of it to clean it up also.{ before Jim got to it} I can be handed a Colt today i sold 40 years ago and tell you the issues. I TOLD MY BUDDY AT THE TIME TO OFFER Jim $30 G FOR IT.RIGHT AT SAR SHOW. Jim said to me Ron i just brought it here to show chuck and a few guys and you since you owned it. i have had probably ten guys do that over the years. even Colt chopper bought one of my old guns. which is one i liked and shot My Kansas city police guns the same. And the Dillinger lock up gun... I am glad they sold it so somebody else can enjoy it for 10 years or so. the owner is on here on this Ohio police one also. Which has a same serial wes hurley....
