Cleaning Frequency

I shoot fairly regular since I can go out my in my back yard and shoot from my patio at my target (s)

As we know a clean gun is a good gun and that makes for less wear and tear making it more reliable and long lasting etc etc.

What round count would be a good rule of thumb  for serious cleaning ?    I do swab out the barrel often and tidy up what I can without

removing the bolt and hammer and associated parts.

Ok,,   How many rounds  ball park number  or what do I look for to indicate I need to give her a bath.   I use unique powder and the 200 gn  Blue poly coated bullets.   The barrel always looks shiny but I always run a mop thru it frequently.

Thanks

I will give an alternative opinion.  And there are caveats.   I will say that excessive cleaning can contribute to excessive wear too!  Do you need to run a steel brush down the barrel every time you shoot a mag or even a few hundred rounds?  I say no. We used to clean the park right off the weapons in the military!  So, I don't go crazy cleaning my weapons.  My duty weapon?  Yes, is cleaned and oiled up regularly.  If I am using anything I suspect may be corrosive (some military surplus), it gets cleaned immediately after shooting and a very thorough cleaning.  My .22 caliber stuff get cleaned more often because .22 is some dirty stuff and the 10/22's jam.  My Reising gets shot a couple times a year, I clean the extractor and ejector and oil her up with a shaving brush (a military trick I learned on the M60- teams).  And that's it.  I know people will have differing opinions.  But, that's how I do my stuff.  I liberally apply a coat of breakfree on the weapon and in the safe she goes.

I shoot on a regular basis,, I would say weekly and it is usually one mag.    I run a cloth swab down the barrel every other mag and a bore brush when I clean her more seriously.   I clean as much as I can without disassembly, about every 500 to 600 rounds I get more serious.   I remove the hammer and bolt and clean out the area associated with them and I catch the firing pin and clean out its chamber.   I shoot reloads with lower powder loads and use Blue 200 gn bullets,,,   the bullets are coated and run clean.
