tricky9914
Hey all, I have a transferable Chauchat. The registered SN on my form 3 matches the SN on the lower receiver side plate. However, on the upper tube end cap, there is a different serial number, which neither matches the lower, nor the paperwork. It was my understanding that the upper tube is the registered part? Most demilled parts kits I've seen, come with a cut tube and intact lower assembly. Is this a non-issue or should I notify the ATF of a serial revision? Thanks for the help! johnsonlmg41
The serial number on the lower is fine. The end cap is just non-matching. Really a non issue and you can't really revise the serial number anyhow. I have guns where a non matching barrel number was used instead of the receiver. There were effectively no clear cut rules when this stuff was done, and some foreign guns had different numbering systems for various reasons. Orginal Stens are marked on the mag housing....this does not mean today you can swap out tubes and that the registered part is the mag housing. Don't overthink it, and don't assume government could comprehend it if you did.
