WTB Magazine Loader for S & W M76 Submachine gun

Recommended Posts

So, my recommendation is that you purchase a M45 (Swedish K) loader, and several 36 round flat clips. This combination works perfectly with the S&W 76. I have been using these (even today I loaded several magazines) for years and they work great. Plus the loader is readily available and the clips can be had (although they are increasingly hard to find). Fellow forum member BillinBama has quite a few and he might let several go.

The idea of having to load stripper clips (or blocks of them) in order to load a magazine doesn't appeal to me.  Lula loaders don't fit. Is there a simple loader similar to this one https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/MAG-LOADER-UZI-9MM-OR-45ACP-22p37.htm that will work with Swede/S&W mags

Never tried this, but it might work. I know you can use Swedish K/Suomi mags in the 76 with minimal fitting (if any).

That should work, Suomi and M75 mags have basically the same outer dimensions.   The one on GB for sale with the Mac 11 strap is identical to a couple I have, I've never tried them on my 76 mags so   I guess I'll have to do that.  AS for the stripper clips REKRAPS referred to, he got most of mine but I still have a few, I'll have to check on that too, a mind is a terrible thing to waste but mine is almost gone....

You may have, but I keep finding things that I had forgotten about, so.... I'd plead the 5th but I can't remember what that is.

That's the ticket! Probably the best loading system ever made. I use it for both the M76 and my K's.

When I bought my SW76 it came with a slide loader (no name was on it)  You loader 13 or 15 rounds in the slot and push the handle to load the mag.  Same thing like the RAE but bigger.

I bought and tried the RAE loader, the loader fit the mag, but could not fit the rounds in the slot. Called them numerous times, said they would do something, but never did. Called Ebay and they resolved the returning problem.   I wish it would have worked out.  They said their engineer quit.

I also bought a steel loader like the one on Ebay (Customer loader) the loader works but it's not fast.  I cannot remember the name of the company. They also had PPS43 mag loaders.  I will look for my paperwork and see what I can find.  Both loaders are in the barn, I will take pictures tomorrow.

Cammaga (spelling?) use to make loaders, but now he makes customer knives. I was at his house (Muskegon Mi Area) for a small shoot. I showed him my push loader and asked him if he could make some. He had one of Brain's BRP sub guns that use Suomi mags.  So, I was hopeful.   It's been four years, so either he forgot or is too busy.

Gents

I went and took a picture of the 76 loaders.

The slide one works nice, if the rounds do not tip over in the slot while loading it and if the magazine does not move in the holder.

I have no idea who made, I acquired this from an estate sale (the guy was deceased).

I might have to order the one off of Ebay for a backup. (you can never have too many backup), plus more people can help me load since they want to shoot it.

Thanks Moose

Just seeing your post. Sorry.      The slide looks like one piece of plastic.    It does have some wear on the round side from pushing them in.

I'm very happy with it, but always looking because I know someday it will break.

Thanks Moose

I have used this one for years for a lot of my smg mags (will not work on single stack such as Sten, Grease Gun, etc).  If you want to load from boxed 9mm this beats the stripper clip loader (although I have one of those and use it on occasion too, if I take the time to load the stripper blocks before going to the range).  I did put some tape on the top of the handle and back of the plunger to prevent pinching (which I have done a few times before this mod).  It says rifle, but it does 223 to 9mm.  It does have a little learning curve to hold it in place centered before plunging, but once you get the hang of it, you will be a speed loader no doubt.

Just a comment related to this ...

It is not too difficult to make a loader contraption yourself that works for the Suomi or S&W 76 magazines. I don't have one anymore so I cannot provide a photo, but I made 3 of them years ago. It's an 'up the butt' loader. You use a plywood backing to screw on wood guides for a hopper and a chute that fills the magazine up the butt. Then drop in the follower, the spring, and put in another guide with plunger that rams the spring up the butt, and then slip the butt plate in place. It's not worth bothering with unless you're filling 5 or 10 magazines. The primary benefit is that you can dump boxes of ammo into the hopper instead of fumbling around handling individual rounds. The downside is that you have to mess with the butt plate and spring and follower for every bloody magazine. The chute to fill the mag and plunger to ram the spring are quick easy operations. I made the chute to feed 30 rounds instead of 36 (dump 3 boxes of ammo in hopper to load 5 magazines). A project for a rainy afternoon.
