Jef291
Just purchased a new 18.5 inch Auto Ordance 1927 A1. Plan on doing an SBR with an Auto Ordance 10 inch barrel. Ordered a barrel removal/install wrench. Just wondering what’s the process installing new barrel and replacing the front sight/cutts compensator. DARIVS
I hired a local retired gunsmith years ago to replace the barrel on my 1927A-1, which was made in 2000 (older one). The 10.5" barrel was ordered from Kahr and the gun registered as an SBR before it arrived. The barrel swapout went well, except that the diameter of the new barrel at the muzzle end was smaller than that of the old barrel, requiring a sleeve to be fabricated and silver soldered onto the new barrel in order for the compensator to fit properly. The receiver above the pistol grip was re-machined to have the profile of a 1928 model, and it was re-blued. You may have the same dimensions issue I did. deerslayer
Barrel threads may be tight. You can chase them a little if needed. Others just screw the old one out and the new one in. The comp is press fit.
Jef291
DeerSlayer Can the stock compensator be removed after pin is driven out or does it require a special tool. It’s a new production
deerslayer
I have a hydraulic press with some tools i made to take off the comp. The barrel is just slightly bigger than the hole in the end of the comp, so one tool goes in the hole and with the comp secured you can push out the barrel. Before I used a press, I got by with a gear puller but that usually put a few marks on the comp.
