reconbob
I found in Doug's files a M1936 Auto-Ordnance catalog. It looks original to me - shiny paper on the inside and what I'll call "marble-ized" covers - not smooth paper. I know these have been reprinted - Doug used to reprint them as well as one other that I know of maybe back in the 1960's. Doug's did not have the marble-ized covers. Now, it would certainly have been within Doug's powers to aquire an original. I don't know enough to make the call. What do you think? Bob
inertord
Reproduction, notice how the trigger on the bottom gun doesn’t intersect the target ring like on an original catalog.
reconbob
Wow. Thanks! Any idea when and who did this reprint? Does it have any value? Bob
TD.
That catalog was most likely reproduced by Numrich Arms. I believe they reproduced this catalog (and the 1923 Auto-Ordnance catalog) many times over the years. It is a very common reproduction. Note how the original catalog posted above by inertord shows some fading or aging on the sides. The reproduction catalogs usually do not fade. Reproduction 1936 catalogs are worth $10 to $25 in nice condition.
paulsavoy
I (think i) have an original one, the grain of the cover is finer, and sand / beige color.
TD.
Hi paulsavoy, Unfortunately, the brown or beige/black cover Auto-Ordnance (AOC) 1936 catalog is also believed to be a reproduction. I have seen some that are really nice, but many are easy to spot as a reproduction. That said, the reproduction AOC catalogs have value because they can be handled without worry. There is a lot of information in the AOC paper items; all very collectable.

Indeed, I am sure volume 8 of Tracies Thompson Encyclopedia will provide an update on AOC paper items; picking up from where Michael and David's Book, 'Thompson Manuals, Catalogs, and Other Paper Items', finished. Volume 8 is on my wish list for Christmas, if my wife notices it 🙏🏼 Edited November 28, 2024 by rpbcps Typo
