Does anyone know of an MP-40 gunsmith?

I second Robert Naess.  He is a true gentleman.  Rob did me a solid favor, calling me at home and working with me for over an hour over the phone diagnosing a problem with my MG-08/15.  Ater a few pictures were sent to help him see the condition, he figured out where  the problem was and I was able to correct it.  I owe him a debt of gratitude, especially in light of the fact that he is one of the most sought after and busy gunsmiths around, yet he took personal time to help a new maxim gun owner out.

I wouldn’t trust anything to Naess. He sold me a Reising m55 that was messed up and wouldn’t work even though it was represented as a functional gun…and yes I have the emails, pictures, and written letters to prove it.

😲  As close as I could get to a shocked face.  I'd guess it was either brokered and wasn't his, or the guy that does his Reising work wasn't available to mail it off to for repair?   Gotta be pushing 85 these days?

He was brokering it but stated it was in great shape and functioned properly. Soon as I opened the box I found a long crack in the stock between the back of the receiver and the stiffening bolt for the pistol grip. I also discovered that someone’s initials were carved in the stock which wasn’t disclosed and you don’t even know they were there as the pictures he sent they were masked by the flash. Took the gun out 10 min after unboxing it to test fire it and it wouldn’t run a 20 round magazine without jamming or failing to fire. Come to find out he had put a new action bar in and tested it on the bench but never actually fired it. He also ran me around when I told him I wanted my money back as this was not as described or shown. I ended up having to do an end run around him to the guy he was brokering it for and caught him in documented lies. I’m sorry but he’s a shady dealer at this point.

John Andrewski does excellent work. 603.367.4458.

I second JA, you will not be disappointed.  He addressed issues causing malfunctions on my Erb tube gun and did a great job with the refinish.  Runs like a top now.

I think by age 10 I figured out bench testing only works for bolt actions on a good day with FMJ ammo?  LOL

Could be he's just done with all of it at this stage of life? We all get there, generally unwillingly.

You get what you pay for.  I always let him just do the work.....
