jjvpo8
It looks like the hammer prices, in my opinion were somewhat low on the Thompsons (especially the Colt's) sold at Rock Island Auction last week. Would certainly like to hear what others think. Regards,
Got Uzi
You can’t go by the hammer price. You have to add in the buyers premium AND sales tax to get the true selling price and THEN you have an actual idea of what they sold for. You’re basing your opinion on something without using all the information required to do so.
StrangeRanger
FWIW GI Thompson prices in general have not increased as rapidly as many other makes; for some reason WH prices have escalated relative to GI guns but still less than the market as a whole. Colt prices are dependent on a particular gun, its provenance and the buyer's wallet and ego.
Lewisfan
Per the RIA website, the Buyers Premium is included with Prices Realized. The tax argument is not valid (in my opinion) since a Dealer can avoid state tax (purchased for re-sale) and an individual, by law, should be paying "Use tax" on stuff bought out of state that they receive un-taxed by their state. Tax man always wants his share. Prices for a number of items seem soft on this auction.
TD.
There were 7 Colts and 1 likely Savage Commerical in the latest Rock Island Auction. None of the guns hammered above 35K. With a 17.5% Buyers Premium, those 5 Colt's that hammered at 35K went out the door at $41,125 plus shipping and tax, if applicable. All in all, I thought the prices were low given there were several nice guns in that action, especially NO 1286, a four-digit 1921A. There were also some dogs in that auction whose hammer prices surprised me, i.e., NO 8210 and NO 12144. The likely Savage Commercial hammered at 30K plus BP for an out the door price of $35,250. I thought this, and NO 1286, were the best deals of all. The biggest surprise was a 1928 West Hurley that hammered at 25K - $29,375 with BP. Go figure!!! While early, perhaps the prices for the Colt guns are on a slight decline. Time and the overall economy will certainly tell.
jjvpo8
I am well aware of the Buyer's premiums involved. Just thought that especially the Colts were low unless they had "issues". Regards,

jjvpo8
This is directly from their site. Could be BS I guess. Price Guides last updated: 2Q24 Where do the prices come from? Price data comes from many different sources. A significant portion is from brick and mortar auctions in the US. Another component is sold items from online auctions. Still another is dealer and private sales from usually reliable sources. Then there’s a component of asking price from valued dealer websites and table prices from gun shows throughout the country. colt21a
you go by the simple sale price all the other b.s. and minutia hammered in is extra b.s. sure the new buyer pays it out of his wallet. ifa gun says $35 g thats it. that is value for this time in space for it. the end game is $41 g too bad on that buyer. so if a hurley did go for $25 g that's that, i know of one sold in town friend to friend for $15 g does it throw the world of Thompson pricing off in the all tell all book of grand knowledge 2025...nope not one bit. we all buy what we buy when we buy. i can give.{fill in space} you pay and buy what you want when you want. don't let books and people dictate anything. if it does not meet what you want to pay move on.... or do without. you can survive the day or week or month or year without it.all the hype in the world means nothing, but if you let it. doomed. and you will never get off the Donkey! colt21a
sp sarge you are a wise man and 100% all true. thru out the 4 days of SAR show all the big time players i was with. they can buy $50 g guns all day bought really nothing. like me they said priced on Mars, and for buyers at auction they said FOOLS. FOUND A COLT B.A.R. AND ANOTHER THOMPSON FOR BOTH.They passed at the prices.i THINK FOR 2025 THE LUNACY WILL PASS.AND MANY ARE SELLING THE "HEREAFTER"GUNS. since if they don't sell now its with them for that time period forever.. even common 1911's and Garands and Carbines. overpriced. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OUT THERE.I counted over a 100 in one building. of each. what was 40 and 30 and 20 years ago is no more. the future table remarks at shows. hey BOB remember Afghanistan, yep we got nuttin back. 'We left it there" now check out my 30/40 krag from SAN JUAN....or my t.p. collection from 2019
