M1921 Actuator wanted/needed - damaged, broken, OK

Recommended Posts

Looking for an original M1921 Colt actuator. Not going to use it in a gun.

For engineering purposes. Must have at least one side of the cocking knob

(so one with one side broken off OK) intact. If you can help me email me

at Philaord@aol.com. Thanks

Back in 2018 we reversed engineered a 1921 actuator, we added more material on the thin crossed section to beef it up. We got the model 3d printed out of metal and you ran a mag or 2 through it and it tested fine. You should have the drawings, models and notes from that project.

Hi Ed - I have many drawings and 3D models that you did for me back in the day, and some of them

for the blank gun - barrel, bolt, grip mount - we had 3D printed in plastic. I can't find any

such drawing or modeling for a M1921 actuator, and I don't remember getting any part 3D printed out of metal,

let alone a M1921 actuator. But even if we did I need to check the knurling, and you can't 3D print knurling.

I have Colt drawings, Doug Richardson drawings, and another 3rd party drawing and they are all different.

So I am still in need of an actuator.

Yes, it is too soon. I am doing some dummy/display M1921 actuator knobs now to get the

knurling and pear shaped slot correct. Then I will move on to M1928 actuators, then when

that is right, the 28's can be machined down to the thin M1921.

As an aside, Doug's actuators which were probably a 9.5 out of 10 in terms

of quality, fit, and finish, were not made by Doug. He had two different machine shops out

in LA make them for him. After Doug passed away and I found this info in his papers, i

contacted both shops to see if they would do another run. The first place the guy that

did them had passed away. The second shop remembered the job and said never

again.

I am excited to hear that you're making another run of display actuator knobs, especially for the M1921. I've been holding off on putting together a M1921A display gun for this very reason. Let us know when they're done and I'll place an order for one as well as another one of your M1921 display receivers.
