Labanaktis
If you want to go down a rabbit hole the bolt safety had a few different versions of knurling. Some original versions had 2 lines, most had 3. Also, the early factory guns that had the barrel shroud with full knurling used a different set of riveted plates and retainer pin that catches the shroud nut. Later on the barrel shrouds had an additional retainer welded in 3 spots (expansion slot to) around the nut. Some TRANSFERABLE builds can have an issue with this because the catch pin is right on the edge of the shrouds nut… I think there are 4 different sears that were used thru out the models listed above. As many variables as the TSMG!

BillinBama
I'm sure in some cases bayonets still have their uses, (I seem to recall some WWII soldiers said theirs were used mostly for opening cans from their K Rations), but my personal opinion is they as useful as "tits on a boar hog" as a man I used to work with often said of such things. And he was a combat veteran of WWII, fought in the Buldge and beyond.

Does anyone have more info on it? Really? Of all the smg's with folding stocks (including the MP38u40) the K has the most robust folding stock anywhere. It is as tight and strong as a wood stock by any measure.

It was never a problem prior to 13 SEP 1994 when it was decided for me that I didn’t need it. Even if I really don’t want or need something, I push back when told that I can’t. 🤣

I prefer the muffler though, so the bayonet never leaves the cabinet.

I'm just big on getting "accessories" for all my guns, which includes bayonets, spare parts, magazine pouches, etc. To me, it adds value and collectability to the rig and makes it easier to sell if I wanted to do so. So my MP40 has correctly dated magazines, magazine pouches, loaders and a super transport box. My K's have bayonets, brass catchers, night sights, speed loaders etc. What I have found is that gathering up all the accessories can be quite difficult and expensive. But to me, well worth it.
