shadowman
Greetings, In the process of transferring a C&R MG-08 Maxim, and would like to find a tripod option for it. (something easy to set up for recreational shooting) As I already have an original WW1 sled mount (w/ accessories) for this gun, I'm open to a setup that's not entirely original... it's my understanding that while the Germans did make tripods for these guns, original examples of such tripods are very hard to find. Some possible options I've seen on various forums: - Swiss Maxim tripod w/ adapter (I'm told Dolf once imported ~100 of these) - Vickers tripod w/ adapter - Turkish Maxim tripod (? doesn't require an adapter?) - misc adapters to go on a more modern tripod/mount Appreciate any input you have... would be very interested in seeing what others have done with this. Thanks, "SM"
shadowman
F/U - Based on the replies I've gotten to my original inquiry (above), it looks like the best option for a Maxim "shooter tripod" is going to be to use a tripod made for the Vickers gun (with an adapter). Does anybody have a Vickers tripod they might be willing to part with? If so, please msg me and hopefully we can work something out. RoscoeTurner
You would do better posting your question on 1919A4.com, many more Maxim owners there than here.

Doubtful, but they do talk about it a lot. The best option are the swiss tripods already setup for the maxim or use your sled mount. A vickers tripod will be a project to make an adaptor for and there's not really much advantage over the sled mount weight wise overall.
