Duza9999
Good evening gents, I had a very nice original finish M50 Reising that about a year ago I put in a silica infused gun sock before leaving Florida for a month. Unfortunately the gunsock absorbed all the oil I left on the gun during that month, and when I came back, it had some established rust. (I’ve since switched to VCI backs and knocking on wood have had good luck so far). Anyways in the meanwhile the damage was done, and as I understand it once rust has appeared with a parkerized finish, it really should be stripped and reapplied. As such does anyone have any recommendations on who to send a Reising to for it to be stripped, and reparked in a historically correct way? I called the CMP a few months ago, but they said they can’t accept MG’s for work. With regards-Mathew

john
I had work done on one of my C&R 1928 A1 Thompsons that had the parkerizing 'belt sanded' off by the previous owner, who then had the gun polished a bit and blued to look more like a Colt. Edges were uneven and twisted, flats we're no longer flat but rounded over. In short, it was horrible! I took it to a guy I know in Glenrock Wyoming, who went at the edges with new mill files and stones, restored the edges very nicely and cleaned up other FUBAR surfaces. He then bead blasted the gun and did a very nice Black Oxide finish on it. It looks like it just rolled off the assembly line at Auto-Ordinance now. Guessing with your gun hed bead blast it to remove the old finish then reparkerize it. That would make it look new again. In my experience, if you want a WWII patina, take the newly parked gun and add a coat of linseed oil or cismoline then wipe off excess and bake in a 200 degree oven for a couple hours. You'll need to repeat that process until you get the look you want, which is basically many years worth of dried oil. I like Linseed oil best for this but it will stink up the house for sure! The Refinisher I mentioned is one of the best in the biz, specializes in restoration of 1911 pistols but does it all. Guild member, I believe. Small shop in Glenrock Wyoming, his name is Doug Mosier and the business is 'Glenrock Blue'. He doesn't do a lot if class III but he did my Thompson. Good luck. https://gunbluing.com/
