Thompson Notes from 2007 ATF Q&A Session at Tracie's

Recommended Posts

I was looking for something today, and happened to run across an old notebook from 2007.  It includes the notes I took during a Q&A session with Gary Schaible from ATF at Tracie's during the All Thompson Show and Shoot in August of that year.  I have been going from memory about this data, and now that I found my notes, there were some other interesting points.  I am posting them here for posterity.

Mr. Schaible indicated he had done a high level search for "Thompson" in the transferable ATF registry.  At that time, there were 186,000 transferable MG's in the registry.  I believe that number has now decreased to 170,000.  Here are some key takeaways:

  • 11,300 entries were returned that included "Thompson"
  • He said there were some other Thompsons in the registry that might not return data in a "Thompson" query
  • He said 11,300 was a conservative number of total TSMGs in the registry
  • There were 25 different TSMG models returned in his data query, including the erroneous "Model of 1912."

Hope this helps!

Great information.  The approx. 16,000 attrition rate is surprising to me.

I'm not.  Lost, stolen, confiscated, accidentally destroyed, exported out of the country, etc.  Time takes its toll...
