WTB MP40 magazine base plates, resting bar, springs

Recommended Posts

If anyone knows where to buy MP40 mag base plates please help me out. I only need 2, but I might buy a couple extras.

Also, where would you buy replacement magazine springs? Wolff or Lee Tool?

Finally my bakelite resting bar is broken at the trunnion end so I was trying to find a replacement. Anyone know if the Triple K resting bar (plastic, I think) works without melting when the gun is fired? Or a suggestion for a better option?

Thanks all!

MP-40 Magazine springs

The barrel on an MP-40 is a dedicated heat sink.  As such, it will not get as hot as a full sized cartridge machine gun.  The plastic Triple K resting bar should work without melting.  The MP-40 resting bar is a scarce part, so using the Triple K reproduction would be the way to go until you can locate and original one.  A alternative would be to machine a replica out of aluminum, since they were sometimes made of metal, roughen the surfaces a bit by lightly sand blasting it so it appears like cast metal, then painting it satin black like an original.  Model the shape of the aluminum part using the Triple K bar for dimensions.

BTW, finding a barrel rest is no easy task. Someone is selling one on GB for $100. These are modern produced and require a little grinding for them to fit right, but for me it was better than nothing.
