New M3 with rust - who can repark?

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a Lend Lease gun that had the bar milled off and appears to have been British renumbered. Clearly was reparked after that. Unfortunately, this gun sat in a closet for 20 years since the owner died. Rust has formed on the gun - slightly into the metal in some small areas but completely fixable. The inside is totally fine and free of issues. Shot it today - ran like a top.

Who should I talk to for cleanup?

Talked to him today. Soon on the way to him. Thanks.

Forgot to mention that it has the Crown mark on the trunnion and the NP 45 .900 7 Tons on barrel. I assume this is also common on the British guns.

That's gonna be a tricky job. If my memory serves me correctly, the Lend Lease guns were painted black, not parked. So you can restore to black, but the gun will look brand new and I do not believe they reconditioned them after the war in black, OR recondition and parkerize which will not be correct for the gun but it will make it look handsome.

They were park’s then painted with high temp stove paint. The M3 and M3A1 left Guide Lamp as normal park’d guns and when the Brit’s got hold of them, they checked them over, painted them, and issued to their troops. When it comes back from its park job, degrease/oil it and break out the Valspare stove paint for an authentic WWII British paint color.

Oh and FYI….it might not be a “Lend Lease” gun….under British spec any weapon that came into the Island has be be inspected unless it was in the possession of a soldier already. This one could have been stock/replacement inventory so which why it has the inspection crown on the receiver and bolt as well as the rest data on the barrel. Not uncommon for EOT M3/M3A1 guns.
