JTM35A2
UPDATE: A trip to Dan Block (Thanks a million Deerslayer!), a nice savage parts kit, some laser engraving, and some cerakote. I think I have done right by the ole girl Pics Below: This post is maybe a help to someone in a similar situation. I came across a Thompson 1928 that was amnesty registered in 68. The owner died in 2015. The son never transferred it to himself, he’s not a gun guy and had no idea that he was supposed to. Details: Owners wife died in 2014 Owner died in 2015 Owners other son died in 2016 No will No estate No probate My process: Acquired certified death certificates for the three. Typed up a letter explaining why it took 9.5 years to transfer the gun, son signed. Included copy of original registration. Form 4 in the deceased owners name with the son signing in box 3d Less than 30 days after the atf cashed the check, it lands in my eform inventory this morning. Moral of the story: Never give up! It’s worth the work/research/financial gamble to try and save these old girls. She’s not in the best of shape. But in talks with the great Dan Block about getting her right again. Rekraps
Woah, that gun needs a bit of care! I hope you'll recondition it.
tricky9914
Well done! No matter the condition, I am always glad to these old guns brought back out of the shadows. There are so few registered MG's, every one we can save is worth it! Thanks for sharing!
Ryo
Thanks for sharing. If there is a will, there's a way.

JTM35A2
Parts kit is already with Dan. The receiver tracking places it within a few hours of the same. Hopefully he can work his magic. I will update as it develops.
BillinBama
Of course for every one saved, there are no telling how many that will be scooped up by ATF and destroyed. Sad.
First Sergeant
I recently kept one from at least being destroyed. A former co-worker contacted me after he was given a very nice Savage 1928A1 from an estate of an elderly gentleman he befriended years ago. Gun wasn't registered ( I had him check with ATF and the family, no paperwork). He currently works at another local Sheriff's Office where it currently resides and will no doubt get some use on the range. I've been asked to clean and function test the gun at some point. I'm guessing 200 rounds should do it. 😉

huggytree
Just had a situation w someone I used to know and a mp44 from his dad. He decided to take it to the police vs finding out if it was registered . Possibly another one gone off the registry. I told him the value. He is not very well off financially but didn’t care about the $( maybe that’s why he’s not well off ? )
