M79 Sponge Rounds and Casing choices

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I posted an earlier thread about using aluminum cases for M781 chalk rounds, and how the impulse charge (full power) would deform the cases, making them one-pony tricks. Well, if you use the aluminum cases for sponge rounds with 1/2 power impulse (.38 1/2 loads), there is no deformation. Cases can be used forever. Note that the aluminum casings have a much more constricted expansion hole than the plastic ones, so even on 1/2 power the sponge round has an incredible velocity. Do not want to get hit by that thing.

Yeah I've been recommending the 1/4 power blanks lately for those. As the 1/4 power are even a bit much.

Really? The 1/2 power does push those sponge tips out faster than I can see... which of course makes it harder to recover them when shooting in my wooded back yard!

Well my friends, very low activity on this topic but I’ll say this: You do not want to get hit with a sponge round!

Major bruise action!

Anyone know where I could get plastic pushers with foam half sphere rounds to reload into existing cases for 40-mm kinetic energy projectile training?  The foam spheres get beat up and broken with repeated use.   If I could get the plastic pushers, I could probably glue foam spheres cut in half on top.   Thanks!

I got lucky on GB and found a bunch. EastBlocArms sells sponge rounds. From what I know, the actual sponge sphere is permanently glued to the plastic pusher, so they are not separate units.
